Aceh International Surfing Championship - Simeulue Pro 2018 again addresses world surfers, an event fully supported by the Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) and the Office of Culture and Tourism of Aceh held officially by the World Surf League (WSL) and Asian Surfing Championship (ASC).

Simeulue Regency is one of the districts in Aceh that is now so serious to be a world surfing tourist destination, moreover every year the area that is famous for Ate Fulawan always holds surfing adrenaline sports.

The activity which will be held on 31 August to 4 September 2018 will take place at Matanurung Beach, precisely in Matan Urung Village, Teupah Tengah District, which is on the western end of Simuelue Island.

Acting Head of the Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar) of Aceh Amiruddin said that the existence of this sport tourism activity in Simeulue was expected to be a part to promote Aceh to foreign tourists, especially surfers.

"In addition to being famous for its natural beauty, Simeulue also has great potential in sports tours, especially for surfing sports that many global surfers are looking for, we hope that this activity can make Simeulue a world surfing tourist destination," he said, Thursday (08/29/2018) .

A number of international surfers in the Simeulue Pro 2018 activities have signed up to participate in the competition, even some resorts in the Matanurung Beach area have been fully booked by surfers and foreign guests since a few weeks ago.

The Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of Simeulue, Abdul Karim said that the Simeulue District Government would continue to develop surfing tourism in the region, as well as being a tourism and cultural sector as one of the priority sectors besides other sectors.

"We hope that with this event, Simeulue Regency with its stunning beaches can be widely known by the people of Indonesia and the world community, and will increase the level of tourist visits," Karim said.

Especially for fans of surfing sports, said Karim, many of these wave hunters are always looking for big waves to be conquered.

"This wave on the Matanurung beach has a height of up to 5 meters and is known as the Long Tube Barrels roll, almost all surfers hunt for the waves both during competition and even on vacation," Karim said.
