Italian Fabio Fonini scored his eighth title in his career on Saturday, beating fourth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-2 in Saturday's final of the Los Cabos International Tennis Tournament.

The 31-year-old is at the top of his career, finishing third in 2018 after his debut in the Swedish Pashtad and Sao Paulo. He will be promoted to 14th place on Monday, one step from his best position (13) In April 2014).

The start was strong by Del Porto, who advanced 3-0 in the first set, but the Italian kept his coolness and responded appropriately to his opponent's loss in the second final this season after the Australian Oakland.

Del Potro, who has not lost any group in his current participation in Mexico, showed signs of weakness and made several direct mistakes, making it easier for Italy to win their first titles on hard court.

"I deserve to win," said Del Potro, 29, the winner of 22 titles and ranked fourth in the world now, to Fonini, who has played better than I have.

"Fortunately, he played with something bad, he was the winner."

Del Potro, who won their last match in Sydney in 2015, has the opportunity to take revenge if things go well as they are likely to meet in the third round of the Toronto-Canada tournament on Monday.
