Last time they met

R8, 2017, St Kilda 12.13 (85) d Carlton 10.6 (66) at Etihad Stadium

  • Jack Billings dominated, collecting 30 disposals, 12 marks, six inside-50s and kicking five goals
  • Cripps was our best with 28 and 2 goals
  • Carlilse made the derogatory comments to Marc Murphy, sparking a half time fight.

What I’m excited about

  • Kade Simpson (hopefully) returns and brings his leadership with him in a backline that desperately needs it.
  • St Kilda is a side who much like Carlton, have been inconsistent with effort and execution.
  • This is one of few “winnable” games remaining in the season for Carlton.
  • Carlton have always had a good response in terms of effort after a demoralising loss. This time it will come against a lesser team.
  • Curnow and Fisher both at 8 touches in the last game and should have a better impact this week
  • Harry McKay will (hopefully) play
  • A spirited Marc Murphy will have Jake Carlisle in his sights.

What I’m concerned about

  • The confidence of the Carlton players looks completely shot - leading to skill errors.
  • Speaking of skills, the fundamentals of the game have not improved in 16 weeks of this AFL season. This is alarming
  • The end of the season is approaching, and players knowing that September is off the cards could be less motivated and really feeling the grind
  • St Kilda have seemingly turned a corner in the past fortnight and they will be confident of getting a win this week

Team changes

IN - Harry McKay | Patrick Kerr | Kade Simpson | Paddy Dow

OUT - Matthew Wright | Andrew Phillips | Jacob Weitering | Caleb Marchbank

I fear for the revolt of the supporter group if Carlton lose this one in the same manner they lost the Brisbane game.

Prediction - Carlton by 7
