The Cup Final between AA Gent and KV Mechelen will be played today between AA Gent and the team who won the 2nd division KV Mechelen.

AA Gent had an excellent end of the regular season, got a bit unlucky at the start of the playoffs and had a total fall back in the last couple matches. It is quite tricky to estimate how they will present themselves this afternoon. The main reference match for me is still the away match against Sint-Truiden where they had to put up a result to reach playoff 1. They played really good from start to finish completely dominating their direct opponent for the last playoff 1 spot winning with 0-2. A lot of time has passed since though and they no longer have the same form. They are however used to playing against solid motivated teams the last 6 weeks while KV Mechelen did not have a competitive match for over a month after winning the title in the 2nd Division. There has also been a lot of talk about them relegating anyway based on the possible match-fixing that took place against Waasland Beveren. AA Genk will be able to field a good team despite missing both Chakvetadze and Yeremchuk. They have has some issues scoring lately only making 3 goals in the last 6 matches with Sorloth seemingly out of form. KV Mechelen is a team that would not have had any issues in case they played in the 1st division this year. The lack of competitive matches is more likely to be a disadvantage for them and they are without Kaya. Betting wise it's a tricky one, I had a lean toward the underdog but their odds dropped a lot making me now fancy AA Gent much more. I'm not willing to oppose such a sharp line movent right away though.
Looking at the historical total amount of goals in these cup finals it shows an average of 2.95 goals and very few draws. 12 Over 2.5 goals - 8 Under 2.5 goals. The under would be a small bet at current 2.75 line @ 1.92 in case the history of the cup matches showed fewer goals overall. Right now there is no bet whatsoever in this match that seduces me and I will wait it out live. If AA Gent shows a similar pattern of domination as was the case in the important match against Sint-Truiden I'll be willing to back them on the 1st half handicap first and see later of how it all plays out.
