So I won a 10 SCR risk-free bet via Scorum-Fans recent give away which as part of the T&Cs requires me to write about the wonderful experience of placing said bet on our very own betscorum exchange.
I am long term fan of free bets and recently wrote in a blog advertising my own free-bet giveaway that I've made in excess of £1000 in the last 18months simply by taking advantage of the many free bet offers that British Bookies give particularly to new customers. The big question is will Scorum-Fans "gub" me from receiving any further promotions on the basis that I've openly admitted that I might be matched betting with their generous offer? You'll see from odds on the game that I've chosen that it's not the ideal one for matched betting (that's because I'm not matched betting) although if and when SCR stabilises in value getting matched bettors and arbing enthusiasts over to betscorum could yet provide a very valuable means of driving liquidity on the exchange. Even yesterday @betman was promoting arbing as a means of transferring funds onto the Scorum platform. It’s an interesting concept and perhaps one worth running a few numbers on to see if there is any real value in using this method to increase your stake on Scorum.
The bet I have decided to make is on St. Johnstone to win their game tonight against Livingstone in the Scottish Premier League. I will openly admit that I know nothing about Scottish football but to be honest that hasn't stopped me betting on a range of other markets on betscorum recently. This weekend I followed a few of @Hassan's tips on the Turkish league and came out ahead. Mainly I was looking at whether his picks on betscorum offered value against odds on other sites such as betfair and smarkets. This is the method that I have used for tonight's match with the odds on St. Johnstone to win on betscorum being largely the same as on those two other, more established exchanges.
While I placed my bet largely based on the value of the odds that were on offer for St. Johnstone, I thought I needed to do a bit of extra research on the club that I had staked my 10SCR on.
I was immediately pleased to find that the club were formed in 1884 by a local cricket team who were looking for a sport to see them through what I can imagine is a very long and dark Scottish winter while they waited for the cricket season to re-start. Clearly this is a team with an underlying set of values that I can get behind!
Looking at their list of former players perhaps the biggest name to come through the club was Sir Alex Ferguson who played at St Johnstone for 4 years even scoring a hat trick for them against Rangers in 1964 a performance that saw him secure a full time contract with Dunfermline.
Fast forward to the current season and St. Johnstone will have been pleased that the Scottish Premier League shuts down for a few weeks in January with the club having lost 4 league games on the bounce in the run-up to Christmas. However, they returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Hamilton Academicals in the cup so perhaps the start of a New Year can see a change in fortunes.
Their opponents tonight are Livingstone who find themselves 1 place below St. Johnstone in 7th. A win for St. Johnstone would help them open up a 7 point gap on Livingstone and put them just 4 points off Kilmarnock in the UEFA cup qualification spots with a game in hand. These could be crazy days at McDiarmid Park!
However, if you were hoping for something of a goal fest then this probably isn’t the game for you. Neither side is free scoring and Livingstone boast the tightest defence outside the big 2 Glasgow clubs this season . As such, if you fancy a bet on Under 2.5 then the odds of 1.553 currently being offered on betscorum are about right!
Anyway, I will be watching out for the St. Johnstone results with bated breath this evening. They are going to have to win me a few more SCR before they become my team to follow north of the border. Anyone with a basic grounding in British geography will know that all good Englishman support Berwick Rangers in the Scottish League due to the fact that they are actually located in England!
