After India being outplayed by Australia by 34 runs, there were a lot of questions raised on the social network and just after the match started some fans even doubted that the Indians will cross 100 runs. It was quite embarrassing for the Indian Team losing their first three wickets for five runs. But Rohit Sharma and Mahendra Singh Dhoni read the situation and put together a partnership which gave the Indian total a semblance of respectability.

Both were defensive at the start of the inning and Rohit Sharma, the hit-man, played sensibly to put together a well compiled 133 runs off 129 balls. MS Dhoni played a slow inning to score 51 off 96 balls. Many of the Indian fans are disappointed with Dhoni’s performance even though that is his highest score over the [past one year. But Virat Kohli, the Indian captain thinks differently. He thinks that both the players were right in their approach to salvage the Indian inning.

It must be noted here that was given out lbw to Beherendorff. But TV replays showed that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump and hence Dhoni would have been able to continue batting if the DRS were available to him. The DRS was exhausted when Ambati Rayadu had contested his LBW decision and lost. Dhoni had to, therefore, walk back to the pavilion. Kohli is of the opinion that if there was a similar partnership between Rohit Sharma and the subsequent batters India could have still won the match.

The ‘Coffee with Karan’ show proved to be a costly affair for both Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. Both the players had to board a flight back to India and could well miss the matches that India will play in New Zealand too. These two have been replaced in the contingent by the BCCI. Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar have been named as the players who will take their places. Shubman Gill had represented India in the ICC Under-19 World C Cup and was named as the player of the tournament last year in New Zealand. He had scored 50 runs or more in all the innings he played in that tournament including an unbeaten 102 against Pakistan in the semi-final. He was again a part of India A contingent under the guidance of Rahul Dravid that toured New Zealand. Vijay Shankar too has played some matches for India and gets another look in on this tour.

It will be interesting to see if Shubman Gill gets a chance to don his India colors this time of if he will have to wait for some more time.

After all , it is interesting to see that Shubhman gill will get chance in playing eleven or have to wait few more.
