In New Zealand, this Monday India’s Men in Blue, led by Virat Kohli continued their excellent performance and got a comprehensive victory over the Kiwis in the third ODI in the five-match series. The Indian vice-captain, Rohit Sharma contributed with another handsome fifty plus inning in India’s win. This win by seven wickets means that India has won the series at 3-0, which is their first win after ten years on New Zealand soil. The win is a good omen for India in their preparation for the ICC World Cup 2019.

This time though, Rohit scored 62 runs in 77 balls giving double delight to his fans for he became the fourth fastest Indian batsman to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly are those that preceded him to the milestone earlier. While Sharma took 260 innings to reach the milestone, Virat Kohli is the fastest Indian batsman to achieve the feat. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer in this match for India.

Rohit Sharma’s performance is improving by the day. As an opener, he is the only batsmen in the world to score three double hundreds in ODI cricket. In the current series against New Zealand, he has scored a total of 160 runs and is the second highest run scorer for India. As Virat Kohli has been rested for the remaining two matches, Rohit Sharma will get to captain the Indian team in the ODI’s as well as in the three T20 matches that they will play against New Zealand.

In the third ODI, Rohit Sharma also equalled MS Dhoni as the batsman who has scored the maximum number of sixes for India in this format of the game. He was two sixes behind Dhoni and his two sixes in this match meant that both he and Dhoni have 215 sixes each. It won’t be long before he surpasses Dhoni given the form that he is in right now. The Indian team will now concentrate on winning the T20 series as well under Sharma's captaincy. The remaining two ODI’s will most likely be used to try out players who haven’t had a chance to play in the series before.
