At ongoing 12th Edition of IPL, most teams have already played their round fifth matches. The last season Champions Chennai Super Kings are the only team who won the four matches so far and are at top of the table with 8 points from the 4 matches. After yesterday’s disappointing loss at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad missed the perfect opportunity to go at the top of the table. A week ago I wrote the article on Batsmen with most IPL Hundreds and after writing that article, I was planning to write this article too. And after watching Joseph’s performance on last night against Sunrisers Hyderabad, I couldn't resist myself to write this article. Let's have a quick look at the top 5 best bowling performance in IPL history.

Alzarri Joseph:

While defending the small target of 136 runs on yesterday’s match, the 23-year-old Alzarri Joseph single-handedly sent 6 Sunrisers batsmen to the pavilion on his debut match. His spell of 6 wickets for 12 runs has now set the 2 new records in IPL. First, he broke the Andrew Tye’s record of best bowling figure on debut match and secondly after taking Sunrisers last wicket, he broke the Sohail Tanveer’s 12-year old record for best bowling figure in IPL. On his record-breaking performance, he first took the wicket of in-form David Warner, then Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, Rashid Khan, Bhubaneswar Kumar and finally Siddarth Kaul. On his 3.4 over spell, he bowled 1 maiden with 16 dot balls and conceded only 12 runs taking the 6 wickets. It took nearly 11 years to break Tanvir’s record for best bowling figure, don’t how much time it will now take to break Joseph’s record. While searching for the replacement of Lasith Malinga, Mumbai Indians handed Joseph his debut IPL match and it was the dream debut for West Indian bowler.

Sohail Tanvir:

Until yesterday’s Joseph record-breaking performance, it looked the record set by Sohail Tanvir on the first season of the IPL will still remain for few years. When India and Pakistan had a good political relation, the Pakistani players were given the green signal to play on the first edition of IPL. On the same season, in a match against Chennai Super Kings in the league stage, Sohail Tanvir alone took 6 out of 10 wickets of CSK. He sent both Stephen Flemming and Parthiv Patel to pavilion on his first over, the on his second over he took Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan’s wicket and on his third and fourth over he took the wicket of Albie Morkel, Muttiah Muralitharan, and Makhaya Ntini. His 4 overs spell of 14 runs for 6 wickets helped Rajasthan to all-out CSK for just 109 runs in that match. Tanvir who set the record of the best-bowling figure in the first Edition of IPL eventually ended the tournament as a purple cap holder (highest wicket taking bowler). Sohail's contribution of 22 wickets from 11 matches played a massive role in Rajasthan’s title-winning campaign.

Adam Zampa:

On a list of best-bowling performance in IPL history, the Australian leg-break bowler had written his name successfully at third on the list. While playing for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016, he took 6 wickets conceding only 19 runs on his 4 overs spell. His best bowling figure helped RPS to stop CSK from setting a big total but the RPS poor batting performance couldn’t even chase the target of 137 runs in 20 overs and lost the match by just 4 runs. Both Zampa and RPS have not participated in IPL 2019 but Zampa’s performance will always be remembered in IPL history.

Anil Kumble:

On the list of best bowling performance in IPL history, India’s most successful spinner Anil Kumble’s performance for RCB is featured at the fourth position. Due to the election at India, the half season of the 2nd edition of IPL was played at South Africa and half of the season was played at India. While defending the small target of 133 runs at Cape Town for Royale Challengers Bangalore against Rajasthan Royals, Kumble took 5 wickets of Rajasthan Royals and helped RCB to defend the very low total successfully. On his 3.1 over spell, he conceded only 5 runs and took 5 wickets of RR. Rajasthan Royals were all-out at 58 runs in just 15.1 overs and lost the match by 75 runs. While destroying Rajasthan Royals batting line-up, Kumble took the wicket of Yusuf Pathan, Rabindra Jadeja, Shane Warne, Munaf Patel, and Kamran Khan.

Ishant Sharma:

Ishant Sharma currently plays for Delhi Capital, he is the second Indian player to feature in the list of IPL best bowling performance. His personal best bowling figure came in 2011 while playing for Deccan Chargers against Kochi Tuskers Kerala. While playing under the captainship of Kumar Sangakkara, the Indian pacers took 5 wickets against KTK when defending the small target of 130 runs. While destroying the KTK’s top order batsmen, he first took the wicket of Kochi’s captain Mahela Jayawardene then Parthiv Patel, Raiphi Gomez, Brad Hodge, and Kedar Jadhav. On his 3 overs spell, he gave only 12 runs and took 5 wickets. While chasing the target of 130, Kochi’s team were all-out at 74 runs.
