We are only two weeks into the new year and the tournaments are starting to slowly wind up!

Throughout the year there will be many to watch and new ones to look forward to, like the premiere of Magic the Gathering! But while we wait for those, here are a couple that at least have qualifying rounds this month. Let's take a look!

Call of Duty CWL 2019

The first qualifying rounds were finished up back in December and the last round is happening on the 16th-20th! There are only 12 spots left to compete in the month's long tournament with $700,000 USD of prizes on the line!

28 of the best teams will begin battling it out for spots to make it onto the roster! They will be spit into four groups of seven teams and the top two from each pool will be placed on the Pro League and carry on to compete.

For the final four other placements third, fourth, and fifth placed teams will enter an eliminations round (double). The bottom two for each pool? Well, better luck next year!

You can tune in on the official CoD Twitch at 11am CT of the 16th to watch the acton!

WSOE turns up the heat with Rocket League

I wrote about WSOE some months back when they first made a splash on the scene with a new kind of eSports competitive experience. The matching is done like one would see in Boxing or MMA, through card titles and defending their reign.

This will prove to be exceptionally interesting with Rocket League, the fourth in their tournament series!

with $100,000 USD on the line, four qualifying teams and six professional team invitations will be pitted against each other until only one remains!

If you haven't watched a WSOE event and are a fan of both eSports and ring fighting (oh, and Rocket League), you might want to tune in on the 26th to see what the hype is about!

VR tournament backed by big names

VR isn't always taken seriously in the eSports world but after CES 2019 it seems that it is getting a little more attention.

Namely, the announcement of a tournament backed by the likes HP and HTC Vive! For those that are interesting in the immersive world of competitive gaming, they stand the chance at winning a pretty sweet $50,000 USD.

The best part? You can get your name in the running from VR arcades all over the world. All you have to do is be in the top leaderboard while playing on the Virtuix's Omni VR treadmill!

Two teams will duke it out over for days for each contest January-March while playing the featured games of Virtuix's Arena Shooter and VRZ: Torment. The top ten will win monthly prizes like VR gear!

At the end of 2019, the top scoring teams will compete in the Omni World Championship!

It all kicks off on the 24th, so find your nearest VR arcade quick if you want to enter! (Oh, or you can sign up on Omni's website!)
