Gods Unchained is boasting to be another incredibly popular blockchain based eSport in the near future. One aspect of this game that instantly jumps out is the fact that there will be a massive cash tournament early in 2019.
Right now the prize pool is already looking pretty great, but they are hoping sales continue and the prize pool can hit $1.6 million USD. That would be quite the incredible kick-off tournament for a brand new game! They seeded $100k of their own money as well, as they're confidence level in the game they're creating is incredibly high. That's just a little fun information though, and doesn't really have anything to do with the game itself, so let's dive deeper into that ;)
This game is doing something with rarities that no other currently existing game has done. In addition to the base rarities of Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary, Gods Unchained has also introduced what could be considered multiple sub-rarities as well. We all know that most card games have foils and non-foils, but GU is really kicking that up a notch. Rather than your standard plain cards and foil cards, GU has implemented a system of 4 sub-rarities tiers, and you are also able to craft the lower tiers into the higher tiers.
So, in this world of true scarcity of cards (since it's a blockchain based game where you truly own your own assets) crafting the higher tier version with your lower tiered versions will diminish the overall existing quantity at the same time it's making the card prettier! The four versions of each card you can obtain, from most common to most rare, are Plain, Shadow, Gold, an Diamond.
This is an awesome system that no other game has created to date, and it will surely be a hit with collectors and those of us that like shiny things! It will also make the secondary market a lot more interesting. Since it takes 5 cards of the lower tier to create the tier right above it, i.e. 5 Plain -> 1 Shadow, 5 Shadow -> 1 Gold, 5 Gold -> 1 Diamond, that means 125 Plain = 1 Diamond, effectively. How will this type of scaling shift values of the cards of higher sub-rarities? We will have to all find out together as the game continues to unravel.
There is so much to talk about without even getting into any of the game play when it comes to the game economics of GU, and that's something to most definitely keep an eye on. However, the game play itself is also shaping up to look very promising. As a sidenote here, those of you that have purchased any amount of packs from the Genesis pre-sale will have access to the closed Beta, which is slated to start up sometime next month.
https://godsunchained.com/ is where you can find these packs, if you're interested!
Let's get back to the game though. What we've seen so far shows us that this game will be one of the prettiest digital card games to date, and I know I'm personally ready for it.
Like the world's current leading digital card game, Hearthstone, this game will consist of a mana system, as well as a small deck of 30 cards, that you are allowed 2 copies of any given Common, Rare, or Epic, while only allowed 1 copy of any given Legendary.
One of the biggest differing factors in this game, however, is the "Hero Powers." Unlike HS, this game doesn't have a static Hero Power that you get every single game. In GU, each hero has 4 different abilities you can choose from (at the start of each game, so choose based on your matchup!) that you can use each turn as long as you have the available mana, in addition to 1 Ultimate Power that you will only be allowed to use once in a game. This allows for some pretty incredible variety in how each game will be played, but you really need to be wise in regards to when you want to use your ultimate if that's what you choose at the beginning!
Above, you can see five different God Powers next to Auros, the God of War. Enrage, Onslaught, Intense Training, and Clarion are his standard God Powers that you may use any turn, granted you have the mana to do so. Slayer is his Ultimate Power, and it could be a true game ender if used properly, hence the once per game limit.
As of right now, none of us outside of the GU-Team have been able to test this game out, but we are all greatly looking forward to doing so next month! The overall diversity this game appears to have so far makes it look to be incredibly promising. It also doesn't hurt to mention that Coinbase is an official backer.
I hope this has been a nice little introduction to the game for those of you that don't know about it yet! I look forward to jamming some games with all of you in the near future ;)
I'm just here to talk about the game itself right now, and won't be going into the details of the blockchain interactions themselves. We want this one to be big!
