French rider (AG2R) won stage 7 of the Vuelta a Espana after attacking during final three kilometres, at Pozo Alcon. That is his first career win in the Tour of Spain and second in all Grand Tours. Amazing Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe), followed with Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) in third place.
“The last 20 kilometres were really difficult. It was narrow roads, technical downhills. We’ve seen crashes, attacks from the favourites… I stayed in a good position and waited for the right moment to get back to Herrada and counter-attack. It’s fantastic. To win ahead of riders like Sagan or Valverde means something”, Tony Galopin (AG2R)
Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky) lost valuable time after his crash, in the last 10km. As a result, general leader Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ), extended his race lead from Valverde, who is now in second place with 47 seconds to French.
Kwiatkowski dropped in sixth place, behind Friday's winner, Gallopin, who is fifth with 58 seconds from the lead.
