It is of great concern why the English FA had decided to extend the grace given to Manchester City midfielder, Bernando Silva to respond to the Charge against him over a tweet he sent to club teammate, Benjamin Mendy.

In a tweet to Mendy, Silva likened the French international to the character on a packet of Conguitos, which is a sweet brand available in Portugal, Silva's native and Spain.

They claim he had implied to race or ethnicity which according to them is an aggravated breach of FA rules.

Ever since this charge was made, Silva had taken down the tweet and Mendy who was the receiving end had come to clear the air that it was all a joke and he does not feel offended.

My OPINION

I think the FA is over flogging this issue and creating a mountain out of a molehill.

The parties involved are friends and club teammates and the person who they feel was insulted by the tweet has come out to defend his teammate saying it was all a joke.

If the supposed victim is not bitter about it, neither is he pressing charges, the FA should just calm its nerves and face other pressing issues.

There have been cases of racism and even abuse that have gone unattended in time past. Are they trying to scapegoat Silva or what? The scandals of officials abusing players, improper handling and the likes are there for them to face.

Yes, we quite understand that they are trying to prevent any form of racism whatsoever however, this is not a case of a hate attack. The parties involved feel there is a mutual understanding which is where I think the FA should look at this from.

Never would I support racism, of course, I'm black and proud and would never support any form of racism, ethnic, racial, religious, whatsoever. I just feel this is a form of distraction for Silva from his job on the pitch. They should just warn him off and I think that should be enough.

What do you think about the FA fanning this fire beyond proportion?
