Match Summary

The history book had actually been expand, as Derby became the first team in Championship playoff history to progress to the final having lost the first leg at home. I believed Leeds didn't read the Manchester United and Tottenham comback story away from home and that the records book is actually reshaping itself, poor Leeds...

Derby County booked their place in the Championship play-off final with a dramatic second leg victory over Leeds United. I have never underrated the power of Derby County and Frank Lampard after what they did to Manchester United and Jose Mourinho in Old Trafford Carabao Cup round 3 tie on the 25th of September 2018. So Frank Lampard has his way of pulling out good results in the second half.

After winning 1-4, and 2-0 in the Championship 2018/19 and then move ahead to taking a 0-1 lead from the first leg of the playoff Leed United expected a cool ride to the playoff final.

Leeds United led 1-0 from the first leg and Stuart Dallas tapped in an easy finish after Cooper's header hit the woodwork to doubled their advantage as they go 2-0 on aggregate, but a 44th minute substitute Jack Marriott who replaced Duane Holmes equalised just before the break with his first touch after a awful mix-up between Cooper and Casilla leaving him with an open goal, thereby ending the first half with a 1-1 draw.

Derby scored twice more early in the second half through Chelsea loanee Mason Mount who had a superb finish moments into the second half at the 46'.

Harry Wilson a Liverpool loanee increased the scoreline to 1-3 from the spot at the 58' after Cooper pulled Mason Bennett's shirt in the area to put Derby ahead in the tie for the first time and spark wild scenes amongst the travelling Rams supporters.

Leeds responded speedily 4 minutes later as Dallas scored his second goal of the game to level the tie at 3-3 on aggregate with a classic finish at the 62', but Gaetano Berardi’s red card with 10 minutes as Leeds were reduce to 19 men to go handed the visitors the impetus, and as Jack Marriott struck his second goal with assist from Richard Keogh to send Derby through.

Derby County were also reduced to 10 men as Malone received the second yellow on the night on the 90+1 minute.

Derby, meanwhile, become the first team to lose the first leg of a Championship play-off semi-final at home and go on to reach the final meaning Lampard's first season in management will end at Wembley.

Closing Remarks:

For such a remarkable win, who should be praise? Is it remarkable Marriott or Smart Frank Lampard?

For me I think it should be a 50/50 praise as Morriott confirm why the coach had so much faith in him even at the 44th minute of the first half, yes just one minute to go...

Their faith and work has truly made history it was a risk worth taking...

Thumbs up Stuart Dallas

It would be a little harsh to criticise the entire Leeds defence, because one member of it was a key figure in this extraordinary second leg. Stuart Dallas, who played at left-back but was given plenty of license to roam, played an instrumental role by scoring a brace in the return fixture. Tapping the first goal as the post denies Copper a goal and the second goal was a solo effort by him as he drives in with his left and finish smoothly across the keeper with his right.

He was outstanding for the team last night.

Derby County will play Aston Villa in the final who defeating West Brom 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate on the 27th of May, 2019 at Wembley.
