Luka Modric must have stole the highlight from yesterday's Super Copa win for Real Madrid but there is one man that took a great step forward to etching his name in the history books of the Spanish giants, Marcelo Viera.

Marcelo was brought on in the 86th minute to replace Vinicius Junior and whereby we were just opportune to see him make one of his trademark slick turns with the ball, the Brazilian legend was brought on to equal a record that has stood for 40 years.

By lifting the Super Copa, Marcelo equaled Fransisco Paco Gento's record of the most decorated Real Madrid player in terms of trophies with 23 trophies to the legend's name before Marcelo drew level last night.

It was the 23rd trophy Marcelo has lifted with the Spanish team since his arrival from Fluminense in 2007. Probably no one would have envisioned him equaling Gento's record after 15 years.

Marcelo is set to usurp Gento in that regard if Real Madrid lift the La Liga trophy come end of season. The Brazilian will be decorated as the most successful player to ever done the white shirt if Real Madrid should lift another trophy before the season ends and he is still with them.

Things are looking bright for Real Madrid at the moment and there is little doubt Marcelo will be breaking that record come end of season. Best of luck to one of the most talented footballers to have ever played the game.
