Please do not wonder why I am rejoicing as a Real Madrid fan despite the loss. Truthfully it is a bittersweet feeling but I will get over it solely because the end of anything is always better than its beginning.

This was Real Madrid’s 18th loss in a season they started with defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup and ended it with another defeat, could it have been any worse?

This last fixture of the La Liga season against Real Betis was supposed to feature players on the brink of exit from the club at least for the fans to give them a proper farewell and that includes Gareth Bale(if any of the reports we have been reading recently was anything to go by). The Welshman has always had a sour relationship with coach Zinedine Zidane and is reported to be one of the reasons if not the main reason for the French coach’s departure last summer. However, the trend seems to have continued with Zidane’s return and the Welshman didn’t play a part in the plans of the Iconic French Legend right until the last minute of this last fixture yesterday.

Keylor Navas who is reportedly leaving was given a nod in goal and the fans chanted his name right until the last minute of the game. Raphael Varane and Nacho Fernandez partnered each other in central defence, while Dani Carvajal and Marcelo completed the four-man backline in their right back and left back positions respectively.

Luka Modric, Fede Valverde and Marcos Llorente filled the three man midfield while Brahaim Diaz, Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema forwarded the attack.

Pardon me but I am going to go straight with the summary of this joyless encounter as a Real Madrid fan which is simply bar a Benzema ball that hit the bar in the first half, Real Madrid were completely lifeless without Vinicius Junior.

Please let us divert our attention to what really gave me joy while watching this fixture, Vinicius Junior.

This was the first match the Brazilian is starting since his injury against Ajax and thank Gracious he hasn’t lost a bit of what he was known for, “relentlessness”.

Everything good in offence came through this 18 year old Brazilian just as we were accustomed to seeing before his injury. His pace, drive, ambition is worthy of note and if he would tow the path of Cristiano Ronaldo by putting more effort into his soccer profession, he sure would hit great strides in the world of soccer.

Hopefully Zidane must have sketched and experimented on whatever it is he wants to experiment on because such a terrible season would be unacceptable to fans and the board next season.
