Less than three days ago, Elche almost sent Real Madrid packing from the Copa Del Rey if it wasn't for two quick late goals from Isco and Eden Hazard in the closing stages of extra time that saved faces.

Today, Elche played Real Madrid again. This time in front of the Real Madrid fans and they almost had their revenge.

Close to the final whistle, I was getting my thumbs ready to criticize Real Madrid's below par performance but they showed why they are the greatest team in the world and you shouldn't write them off until the final whistle is blown.

No matter how annoyed I felt and still feel about Real Madrid not capitalizing on Sevilla's dropped points yesterday, I should give them a break because they did try their best but it just wasn't their day.

There are days you watch football occurrences and it tells you which team will come out on top. Just like the Uefa Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Chelsea in 2012; every bet was placed on Bayern to triumph but everything went against them. From hitting the post to opponent's goalie on beast mode to mighty Arjen Robben missing a penalty. All these ill fateful occurrences should tell you the god of football is rooting for the other team.

Real Madrid started the encounter in dominating fashion. They ran the Elche players deep into their own half and had chances to open the scoring but it just didn't click right. Vinicius had a glorious chance to send Real Madrid ahead but he played into the arms of the keeper. Casemiro was laid a glorious pass on the edge of the box but his shot could only fall into the arms of the keeper. Real Madrid were awarded a penalty and Benzema shot wide. The bad luck remained and they couldn't open the scoring until Elche had a go of their own and scored. What a life!

Real Madrid began the second half in search of an equalizer. They threw everything they have got at the Elche defence but the goal kept eluding them and then bang; Elche made it two.

In the process of watching the encounter, I kept laughing at Real Madrid's missed opportunities because I knew from the first half misses that it will take a change of mind from the god of soccer for Real Madrid to win this game.

Elche sat back and comfortably thwarted whatever Real Madrid had for them but it wasn't over until it was over.

Real Madrid gained another penalty and Modric scored this time around. They went in search of the equalizer and it was granted them in the second minute of injury time as Eder Militao rose highest to power in a header from Vinicius cross.

There was no other goal in the match as it became obvious the god of soccer scheduled the match for a draw. Lol

The draw still leaves Real Madrid atop the table and with a 5 point gap on second placed Sevilla. The whites would be hoping not to drop any other point soonest as Sevilla has proven to be real title contenders.
