There is no doubt that Real Madrid has been the busiest club team in the current transfer window, unlike some teams that have just speculations hanging over their shoulders. No pun intended, LOL.

A total of four signings has been confirmed made by the club. With Serbian striker Jovic, Belgium’s Eden Hazard, France’s Ferland Mendy and Japanese’ Takefusa Kubo adding strength to the club, a total of over 200 million Euros has been churn out by the team on players.

While Jovic and Hazard’s recruitment has been very much appreciated considering how blunt Real Madrid’s attack was last season and the arrival of young Kuba nicknamed “Japanese Messi” quite understandable considering his age, the transfer I am yet to understand the reason it was carried out is the splashing of over 30 million Euros on Lyon’s left back, Ferland Mendy.

It all started as a rumour and before we could say Jack, the money has been sent and the player transferred. This leaves me with one question, “Where does this leave Marcelo and Sergio Reguilon?”

Marcelo, who has been one of the most outstanding player of the Real Madrid team in recent years and a vital cog in their recent triumphs appears to be losing to the trials of age. The Brazilian was a complete shadow of himself last season under both Lopetegui and Santiago Solari, two coaches that handled the team in succession.

Although it was reported Marcelo had a deteriorated relationship with Solari that saw him sit out most of the matches the Argentine coach oversaw. In that case, Sergio Reguilon who rose through the Real Madrid academy was trusted with the number 3(left back) position and the young Spaniard impressed greatly. He was solid at the back and effectively sound upfront, well deserving of Marcelo’s spot.

Not long after we were enjoying the “Reguilon show”, Zidane returned to the managerial seat and with that came the reinstating of trusted servant, Marcelo. Reguilon played very few minutes under Zidane until the season ended and with the summer transfer window came the signing of another left back.

Ferland Mendy’s signing has raised many questions as to what will be the fate of either Marcelo or Sergio Reguilon for both players are too good to sit at the bench as back up.

From my understanding, Zidane appears unsatisfied with the talent of Sergio Reguilon and what he brings to the table, hence the signing of another left back. The French coach has had the luxury of coaching the youngster when he was with the B-team and should definitely know a thing or two about the Spaniard.

There is every possibility Zidane doesn’t see a future with Sergio Reguilon at Real and there is also another possibility that the Marcelo transfer to Juventus or to another team would be lashed at our faces but whatever the case may be, Ferland Mendy’s arrival means we are to expect losing either of those wonderful fullbacks.
