The segment ‘My favourite athlete’ that stands strong for a couple of months on Scorum gets a new episode, as I will tell you why Eden Hazard is one of the best athletes out there.
Eden started his football career in 1998 at his local club in Hechtel at 7 years old. At the age of 14 talent scouts from Lille and RSC Anderlecht recognized his talent and invited him for their team. Eden preferred Lille and joined their club that same year.
The young talent was a key player in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship. Carrying the Belgian Red Devils to the semi-finals.
Lille
In Lille Eden had a special treatment. His trainings were more intense, they were harder,… Lille saw potential in Eden and trained him to make the high expectations come true. During the first match Eden played in the base team of Lille he proved himself worth the time, scoring a goal.
The young talent was voted best young player in the French Ligue 1 in 2009 and 2010.
In 2011 he won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France with Lille OSC. At the end of the season he was chosen player of the year, making him the youngest player to ever win this award.
Chelsea
In May of 2012 Hazard announced he would go to Chelsea. The English club payed 40 million euros for him, making him the second most expensive Belgian player and the second most expensive player from Chelsea.
During his first match he proved himself worth the money. According to Roberto Di Matteo: “He showed all his qualities and it was a pleasure to watch him. He was a big threat and difficult to mark”

Hazard went on to play an amazing season, winning the Europe League in 2012-2013 with his club Chelsea.
In 2015 Eden Hazard was chosen PFA Players’ Player of the Year, being the first Belgian player to ever win this award.
Belgian Red Devils
At 17 years old, Eden Hazard was one of the youngest players to ever play for the Belgian national team. In 2011 he scored his first goal during a match against Kazakhstan. He later became one of the top scoring players to ever play for the Red Devils.
The 2018 world cup was his tournament. He managed to burn to his opponents’ defenses like no one else. Eden proved himself to be a world class player.
I feel like every time Eden gets the ball something is about to happen. He is an artist, Eden has an overview like no one else. Eden is my favourite player to date.
