It is rather remarkable with this game how Peru did not manage to find the back of the net with the amount of chances they created and had from start to finish in the game, I think the missed penalty on half time pretty much made it looks like they were not going to score in this one! But they didn’t really test goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, most of the shots were straight at him and in the process he has broken his Dad’s clean-sheet minute record for Denmark.

Peru 0 – 1 Denmark (59, Poulson)

45+ 1 – Missed Penalty (Cueva)

Peru: Pedro Gallese; Christian Ramos, Miguel Trauco, Luis Advincula, Alberto Rodriguez, Edison Flores, Andre Carrillo, Renato Tapia, Yoshimar Yotun, Christian Cueva; Jefferson Farfan

Denmark: Kasper Schmeichel; Simon Kjaer, Jens Stryger Larsen, Andreas Christensen, Henrik Dalsgaard; Yussuf Poulsen, Christian Eriksen, William Kvist, Pione Sisto, Thomas Delaney; Nicolai Jorgensen

The game started it a rather high pace and tempo looking very open and end to end. I was very impressed with the direct play from Peru who looked as though they would run riot if they scored early on. The pace from the front players was outstanding. For Denmark I was very much looking forward to seeing how Eriksen plays for them, as he is a top class player. He struggled to get into the game a lot seemed like he was trying too hard. But when they needed class and composure on the ball her certainly did show that with a key role in the goal, playing the perfectly weighted pass to Poulsen to finish in the 59th minute.

Eriksen

Paolo Guerrero’s introduction for Peru made a big impact. He looked the most likely to actually put the chances away. It was actually crazy how many shots they had at goal and the build up play was very quick and impressive, in the final third and in the box though they more than let themselves down. Farfan was disappointing for me, I thought he was much better than he showed throughout the match.

This result has certainly made this group become very interesting as I am sure Peru were the favourites in this one! The start to the World Cup has been brilliant, I am actually a little bit sad that I can’t actually watch every single game!
