It was the much-anticipated community shield showdown, as the pre-season campaign comes to an end for the premier league clubs. Man City who are coming from their tremendous domestic treble win last season battled it out against Liverpool as they closest team to honour the community shield match, for a chance to begin the 2019/2020 season on a high. A game that saw Pep and his Man City side come out as back-to-back community shield victors.
Man City had a phenomenal season last season, and are already showing that they are ready to continue from where they stopped last season. A great game it was against a very strong Liverpool side, to finally get the job done on penalties to make it back-to-back success in the community shield.
Liverpool much like Man City had a pretty phenomenal season last season as well, coming close to winning their first premier league title after so many years and also claiming the champions league trophy. It was a great community shield outing for them and they will be disappointed to come out as second best after coming close to scoring the winning goal.
Brief Post-Match Analyses
It was a fantastic atmosphere at the Wembley Stadium, a much-anticipated fixture and with lots of fans all excited for the game.
Man City setup in their usual preferred 4-3-3 formation while Liverpool setup in their preferred 4-3-3 formation as well. The game begun and immediately saw two teams who wanted to make their mark in the game, but it was Man City who took charge of most parts of the first half before taking an early lead. Liverpool on the other hand, were more dominant for most parts of the second half and eventually getting the deserved equalizer. They will probably be kicking themselves for not winning the game after they had quite a number of shots on target, most especially a chance that was cleared off the line. It ended 1-1 in full time and went into penalties.
Raheem Sterling gave Man City the lead just 12 minutes into the first half, firing the ball in-between the goalkeeper’s legs ti find the back of the net.
Joel Matip got the equalizer for Liverpool in the 77th minute, rising highest to convert Van Dijk cross with a very good header.
Bravo becoming the penalty hero after saving Wijnaldum penalty, to help Man City come out yet again successful at Wembley, winning back-to-back community shields, and getting ready for the new season on a high.
A great game it was as well all anticipate the first game of the new season next week.
