Coming up later today is the first fixtures of matchday 10 of the ongoing euro qualifiers. An exciting and much-anticipated fixture as Portugal set to face Luxembourg at the Josy Barthel. The battle for second position is still on as Portugal are just 1 point above Serbia, making this fixture a must-win for the Portuguese.
Portugal have been really good so far and have scored a lot of goals. Their form this euro qualifiers campaign with 4 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss, have seen them drop 5 points behind Ukraine who have been outstanding. For Portugal, this fixture against Luxembourg is crucial as they aim to cement their spot in second position if they get the job done later today.
Expected formation and tactics, Portugal will be expected to set up in a 4-3-3 formation. When it comes to fast attack and counter-attacks, Portugal are definitely up there with the top teams. They have fabulous qualities in their team and players who can cause damage to any team with their qualities in attack. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of their greatest attacking force and goal-scoring machine in their history and for them, it will be another opportunity to get the all-important 3 points. Their gameplan will be to play their game, knowing that if they play a very good game and are clinical, they will most likely get the job done.
Luxembourg have been pretty poor in their euro qualifiers campaign. Their last 4 games were all losses, as they have only managed to earn 4 points out of the 7 games played. Quite disappointing for any team, however, a group containing great footballing nations like Ukraine, Portugal and Serbia isn’t an easy group to be at. They face another very tough game against free-scoring Portugal at the Josy Barthel, so for them, it is another chance to try to get another win even though they are obviously the underdogs in this game (nothing is impossible in football).
Expected formation and tactics, Luxembourg will be expected to set up in a 4-5-1 formation. Their gameplan in this game will most likely be to defend and stay calm and compact at the back while relying on counter-attacking moments to hurt Portugal. They will also be looking at capitalizing from set-pieces as well to hurt Portugal.
What do you think will be the outcome of this fixture?
I would love to read your thoughts and opinions… Enjoy your day.
