Lively Peru team still managed to make impact at this World Cup. But courtesy of many chances missed in the previous two games, it came only in a game that did not matter for them and mattered not too much for the opponents.

Australians could have qualified, but a win vs Peru alone would not help. They needed Denmark to lose points vs France who fielded virtually a second team and almost explicitly showed they did not care about the result much.

Australians, rock-solid, but lacking some attacking temperament, did everything they could, but probably even most hardcore socceroos fans understand this is a team of limited abilities which were already exceeded in the previous games.

Carrillo lashed a great volley through tournament's hero Jedinak's legs and into the bottom right corner of Mat Ryan’s net after 18 minutes of play. And right at the beginning of the second half Guerrero worked for the second goal. With still a draw in France vs Denmark both teams understood their destiny.

Peru and Australia go home, but with the heads up. Like teams who did what they could. Maybe only Peru can recall the missed penalty in the Denmark game.
