At Last, The 50 Year's Wait is Over
After lifting the trophy 🏆 in the inaugural league season back in 1971, Atletico Mineiro had to wait for half a century before lifting another Sèrie A league title.
In a condensed 2021 Brazil Sèrie A season that kicked off on 29 May 2021 and is set to conclude on 9 December 2021, the Belo Horizonte club has proven to be too strong for the other 19 teams in the league. Thanks to the league's undisputed MVP of the season, Hulk and the experience of former Chelsea and Athletico Madrid striker, Diego Costa.
After falling just a little short in their quest for the title last season, Hulk upped his performance this campaign together with the rest of the squad of course to ensure the wait lasted no longer than 50 years.
Diego Costa was brought in midway through the season on August 14 on a free transfer. Although he's played just 14 games so far this campaign, you can never take away what Diego Costa can offer a team as a striker up there in the box. So far, he's scored 4 goals and an assist to his name.
