The baby boomers and their children may still remember the song 'I will survive' by Gloria Gaynor. It was a HUGE success in 1979.

15 years later, a group of students from Rotterdam started a band: 'Hermes House Band'. They weren't to serious; They simply wanted to party.

One of the songs they covered was 'I will survive'. Since their aim was to create a festive atmosphere wherever they performed, and they wanted a sing-a-long effect, they added something to the original. It was the LaLaLaLa part you can hear in the clip below (starting at around 2 minutes into the track).

This version of the song became a huge success in this country which is almost completely below sea level, the Netherlands.

And then there was football, European football... and France. For some reason the French adopted 'I will survive' as THE song to celebrate victories of their national football team. Already back in 1997 and 1998 the song hit the top 10 in the French music charts, twice.

Today, the song is again immense popular in red-white-blue stripped country, they won the World Cup and love the LaLaLaLa part of the song. I'm wondering if they know this was an addition to the original; not from Gloria, but from the crazy party boys and girls from Rotterdam :)

Of course the French team had to celebrate together with their national leader, Macron. And of course, they sang LaLaLaLa... And why not? :)
