5 more rounds to go in the Jupiler Pro League! Time to have a review of round 25!

Winners

Genk

Genk did start their tough February month with an impressive win against Standard (4th). They are 2 classes better than Standard and now have increased the lead to a whopping 11 points on number 2.
Although they only scored the first goal in the second half, there was no doubt that only one team was playing and deserving to win!
Right back Maehle played again an impressive game. Most of the time people are discussing the playmaker or striker, but this time most of the credits went to the young 21 year old Danish player! For sure he will be sold in the summer and probably to a Premier League team. I won't be surprised that the transfer fee will be more then 15 million euros!

St Truiden

The only other team from the top 6 who did win its game. It was a difficult win against Waasland Beveren. The winning goal was scored in the dying minutes of the game. Really impressive what they are doing. In the beginning of the season St Truiden did claim that they wanted to end in the top 6 and get a place in the Play Off 1. Everybody was laughing with this statement, but with only 5 games left in the regular season the do have a four point lead over number 7! Still not sure that they will make it, but each win or even point will bring them a little closer!

Lokeren

For the third winner I was doubting between Mouscron, who did collect 12 points out of there last 5 games, but in the end I did go for Lokeren.

Lokeren seems doomed to relegate but they surprised last Saturday with a win against Antwerp. Antwerp is third and still mathematically not sure of a spot within play off 1!

With still 5 games to play, Lokeren still has 5 point behind a safe place in the ranking! I don't think they will stay in the league, but it was a victory which does give hope! And stranger things have happened!

Loosers

Whoow so many teams I can pick for this chapter!

Anderlecht

But let's start with the record champion of Belgium. Again another game without victory! This time the game ended in a scoreless draw! Not only that is bad but there seems to be no improvement in their form and playing style. Anderlecht did sack their head coach before the winter break, but Rutten is not pushing Anderlecht forward!

At the moment they do share the 6th place with Gent but do have a small lead due to their better goal difference! The remaining fixtures of both team are more or less the same. But Gent is improving while Anderlecht is stalling!

Club Brugge

The champion of last year is having a bad period. They are loosing points and playing badly. They lost 4 points compared to Genk. Also there seems to be a lot of frustation in the squad. Players who are substituted during a game come off furious! The crowd isn't understanding the line-up and substitutions of the coach!
So, there is definitely something wrong!

They really need a good Europa League game tomorrow to restore confidence!

Well that it is for now. I will post my prediction for round 26 or on Friday!

I hope you have all a happy Valentines day!

Cheers,
Peter
