It was the first week of my new Bundesliga Predictions Challenge, and there were plenty of shock results. The score to beat was low, but I just managed to escape the weekend unbeaten. Let's see how things panned out...

For this first week, there were four challengers, and I am hoping that this will slowly start to build as the season develops. My predictions for this latest round of matches were not that bad in truth, but many results went against the form book. Who would have thought that Borussia Mönchengladbach would get well beaten in Freiburg? Did anybody think that leaders Dortmund would slip up at home against Hertha BSC?

Then, on Sunday, there was the goal-packed drama involving Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen, one of the most bizarre matches of the season so far.

Here are this week's results:

And here are my predictions and points:

  • SC Freiburg 0:2 Borussia Mönchengladbach (incorrect, 0 pts)
  • Borussia Dortmund 2:0 Hertha BSC (incorrect, 0 pts)
  • Hannover 96 1:2 FC Augsburg (correct result, 4 pts)
  • 1.FSV Mainz 05 0:2 FC Bayern München (correct outcome, 2 pts)
  • Fortuna Düsseldorf 2:2 VfL Wolfsburg (incorrect, 0 pts)
  • TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 3:1 VfB Stuttgart (correct outcome, 2 pts)
  • 1.FC Nürnberg 0:2 Eintracht Frankfurt (incorrect, 0 pts)
  • RB Leipzig 2:0 FC Schalke 04 (incorrect, 0 pts)
  • Werder Bremen 2:1 Bayer 04 Leverkusen (incorrect, 0 pts)

All for a total of eight points.

Two of this week's four challengers managed to equal my score, with one particularly unlucky. Eintracht Frankfurt's last-gasp equaliser in Nürnberg brought sport-frei a stunning Sunday afternoon four-pointer, but he then ended up doing as badly as me in the evening matches.

Next week's challenge will be up on Thursday, after this week's round of DFB-Pokal matches.
