Hot on the tail of the Week 4 review, we have the preview for the fifth round of the German league programme. In the first "Englischer Woche" of the season, there are a plenty of interesting match ups. FC Bayern München are up against Bavarian rivals FC Augsburg, Bayer Leverkusen take on Fortuna Düsseldorf in an intriguing Rhineland Derby, and FC Schalke 04 continue the hunt for their first points against SC Freiburg.
Last week's predictions were not fantastic, but were not that bad either. Can I do any better this week? Dare I back Schalke to finally get off the mark? Will Bayern continue their perfect start to the season? Time is short this week, so this selection will be short and sweet!
Werder Bremen v Hertha Berlin (Tue.)
Werder: unbeaten. Hertha: unbeaten. Will something finally give? Florian Kohfeldt's Bremen side have been impressive so far this season, while Hertha have bubbled nicely before producing a glut of goals in their last match against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
There is nothing to separate these two. There will be goals, but both teams will be finishing match day five with a zero in the losses column.
Prediction: Werder 2:2 Hertha
FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg (Tue.)
Bayern have been mightily impressive this season, and there is nothing to suggest that FC Augsburg can alter the champions' current trajectory. There will be the additional edge of it being a local Bavarian contest, and Augsburg have become well known for their fighting qualities.
Augsburg will fight tooth and nail, but will not have enough. Bayern have the team, they have the coach, and they have the firepower.
Prediction: FC Bayern 3:0 Augsburg
Hannover 96 v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (Tue.)
Both of these teams have huffed and puffed this season, and their positions in the middle of the table illustrate the point. Hannover were well beaten by new boys Nürnberg at the weekend, while Hoffenheim were a little unlucky not to take all three points against Borussia Dortmund.
Julian Nagelsmann's Hoffe have flattered to deceive, but they will have just about enough to take the points in this one.
Prediction: Hannover 1:2 Hoffenheim
SC Freiburg v FC Schalke 04 (Tue.)
This contest sees two teams at the opposite end of the confidence scale. Freiburg would get off to a bad start, but with coach Christian Streich back they have picked up four points from their last two matches. Schalke, in stark contrast, are rock bottom after a dismal show at home against Bayern.
Confidence will swing this one. On home turf and with their enthusiastic support, Freiburg will do enough to keep Domenico Tedesco's side chained to the basement.
Prediction: Freiburg 2:1 Schalke
Fortuna Düsseldorf v Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Wed.)
A match between two evenly-matched teams - on form, rather than on paper. Fortuna Düsseldorf have punched well above their weight so far, while Leverkusen have been well below par. Having picked up their first points at the weekend, die Werkself will be more confident, but Friedhelm Funkel's Fortuna have shown that they are no pushovers.
Leverkusen could switch on and roll to an easy win. But I don't see this happening. Düsseldorf may not have the big names, but their team spirit will see them pinch it.
Prediction: Düsseldorf 1:0 Leverkusen
Borussia Dortmund v 1. FC Nürnberg (Wed.)
Dortmund have blown hot and cold in their opening four matches, and can thank their fighting spirit for keeping them in the contest with ten men against Hoffenheim. Nürnberg collected their first three-point hall at the weekend, and will be brimming with confidence ahead of their journey to the intimidating Signal Iduna Park.
The Franconians will fight hand, and get on the scoreboard. But provided they keep their discipline, one cannot see past Dortmund here.
Prediction: Dortmund 2:1 Nürnberg
RB Leipzig v VfB Stuttgart (Wed.)
There have been few bright moments for Leipzig this season, but one can also say the same for struggling Stuttgart. With just one win between them, both teams will be looking to get their season going as its second month comes to a close. Leipzig have the big names, but have not managed to click so far.
Up against a weaker opponent, Leipzig should have enough in their armoury to secure a comfortable win. There should be some daylight between the two come the final whistle.
Prediction: Leipzig 2:0 Stuttgart
Borussia Mönchengladbach v Eintracht Frankfurt (Wed.)
Gladbach took a bit of a hammering in Berlin at the weekend, but they are a completely different prospect in the familiar environs of the Borussia Park. Frankfurt began the season slowly, but were unlucky not to collect all three points in their weekend match against Leipzig.
Frankfurt will get on the scoreboard, but Gladbach will make up for the weekend's defensive shambles.
Prediction: Gladbach 3:1 Frankfurt
1.FSV Mainz 05 v VfL Wolfsburg (Wed.)
Both teams suffered their first loss of the season at the weekend, and will be looking to straighten things up quickly. Mainz were a little unlucky in Leverkusen to lose by the single goal, while a toothless Wolfsburg were surprisingly outplayed on their visit to Freiburg.
Both teams can score goals, and we will see a few on Wednesday evening at the Opel Arena. With nothing to separate them, this will be an entertaining high-scoring draw.
Prediction: Mainz 2:2 Wolfsburg
