In this series of 52 weeks, (1 year to be exact) every Thursday I will talk about a city in the world where it is famous for its sports teams as well as the rivalry between them. Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro is known worldwide for its joy and celebration. But it is also for sport. The Cariocas had the opportunity to visit the two most important sporting events on the planet in just two years. We are talking about the FIFA World Cup in 2014 as well as the Olympic Games in 2016.
In Rio, sports does not stop, whether you're walking on the beach and you come across a game of beach volleyball or a football game. The inhabitants of Rio are just as competitive as the party. In Rio, the king of sports is football. This is no surprise to anyone, football has taken over the world and Rio de Janeiro and the Maracaná are key pillars of this rich football history.
Among the Rio de Janeiro football teams are four of the most important clubs in the country, Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco da Gama and Botafogo, so, as expected, the sporting events in the city that produce the most excitement are the "Classics", when these teams face each other.

These four teams along with those of Sao Paulo (Corinthians and Sao Paulo FC) and Porto Alegre are the most important teams in Brazil. Oh and the Palmeiras.
The passion with which we live a FLU-FLA is indescribable, the rivalry is so great that always their confrontations are safely filled in the stadium and fans usually live these games with more suffering than joy.
Without a doubt, Rio deserves to be one of the world capitals of sports.
