For many years now in the premier league the London derby between the Blues of Chelsea and the Lads of Arsenal has been an epic and entertaining fixture that makes the front page of the newspaper whenever they are a showdown between the two clubs. The rivalry between the two teams continue to grow in strength each season as both teams continue to give football fans a show of what a definition of a derby match is supposed to be.

They are several other London clubs such as Tottenham, Westham united and crystal Palace who also play these Derby in the league but the games there can’t compared to what this two giants bring to the pitch.

Head to head

The rivalry between the two biggest London club started way back 1907/08 season and it became more intense during the 2000s and more of the winning has gone to the west London club Chelsea and for that reason the blues feel they have the bragging rights over the North London club Arsenal. But let take a look over the overall statistics between the two.

Ever since their first game in the 1907/08 season at the Stamford bridge were the blues won the game 2-1 that started the old long rivalry this two share and they have been so far 196 meetings between them and the gunners so far have the highest wins with a staggering 75 wins to Chelsea’s 63 which means that the remaining 58 games has been a draw. So it is fair to say that the gunners should have the bragging rights between the two clubs.

Another point to note is the finals where these two high profile teams have met each other, one of which was the finals of the 2002 FA Cup final with Arsenal wining the match 2-0, the two teams went to meet again in the 2007 league cup finals and this time Chelsea won the encounter 2-1 under the management of coach Jose Mourinho. The gunners again snatched a 2-1 win again over the blues during the FA cup finals 2017.

Chelsea six goal riot

This game is one of those fixture I as an arsenal fan am trying to forget and I am 100% former manager Arsene Wenger is fighting is mind to forget the encounter as well, the game has a lot of emotion attached to it for wenger as it was his 1000th game in charge since taking over the managerial duties of the club but it turned to an occasion of moans for the Frenchman as his side suffered a 6-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford bridge. The gunners were already two goals down under 10minutes of play before mistake in identity on a foul on Eden Hazard in the box which saw Gibbs sent off instead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlein before the blues added for more four goals to compound things for wenger and his team.

Arsenal have had quite a good share of the big score line, the 5-1 victory during the 1930/31 season remains the gunners highest win against the blues.

Transfers

Despite the long age rivalry between the two biggest London clubs they have been a huge transfer of players within the two and currently the gunners goal keeper petr Cech moved to the emirates stadium in 2015, Ashley cole, Monaco new man Cesc Fabregas and Olivier Giroud are among arsenal players to have joined the blues. This two has done a lot of transfer deal so it is fair to say that they have been in good terms in that aspect.

19 January,2019.

The next fixture between these two giants is going down this weekend and as usual everyone will be expecting nothing short of another cracking encounter as the two teams occupy the fifth and sixth place of the premier league table. For now, is simply a fight for champions league spot as both of them a far away from the league leaders Liverpool and Manchester city.

Arsenal who lost the first leg this season away to Chelsea 3-2 will be going into this matchup hoping to keep their up for a champions league qualification alive. The defensive line has been a bone in the neck for the gunners this whole season and has cost them the entire season. Unfortunately, the coach Unai Emery is not looking to add players in this January transfer so the gunners will have to take it as it is for the reminder of the season.

Chelsea have lost just once in their last five games and will be going into this encounter with the upper hand in this match, Sarri’s men will be hoping to keep a strong grab on their fourth position while also trying to close down on spurs who are in third place.

That’s it for the London derby review, THANKS FOR READING👏👏
