Match Analysis and Stats
After the end of GW28 matches, we’ve now reached to the last 10 rounds of Premier League season 2018/19. Following the mid-week Premier League matches, the Premier League GW29 is back again with some mouth-watering fixtures. The two major derby matches, first North London derby and the second Merseyside Derby are undoubtedly the most watch fixture of this week. In a last match of GW29, Everton will host their city rival Liverpool this Sunday at Goodison Park for the 200th top flight Merseyside Derby. The Merseyside derby is one of the oldest football derbies in Football history and is considered as one of the biggest fixtures for the fans of these two Merseyside team.
Liverpool has been dominating on this fixture over the years and hasn’t lost in the last 16 Premier League meeting against Toffees and 18 in all-competition. Out of those sixteen Premier League meetings, both teams have shared a point 9 times and Liverpool managed to win 7 times including that last minute dramatic winning goal from Origi in reverse fixture on last December at Anfield. This season, Liverpool is playing like a champion and they’re in good position to win their first ever Premier League title. It’s been nearly 3 decades since Liverpool last won England’s top division league. Last time when we thought Liverpool are going to win their first Premier League in 2013/14 season, the infamous Gerrard slip happened and Manchester City snatched the Premier League trophy from them. This season also, the last season Premier League winner is giving tough competition to Liverpool to retain the Premier League title. No team have succeeded to retain the Premier League title since Manchester United did it in 2008/09 season with 3 trophies in a row. Each week, the Premier League title race is getting closer and closer between these two horses and both teams are now in a condition to not lose a single point in any match. One’s lost will be gain for the other one.
After a disappointing goalless draw against their arch-rival Manchester United at Old Trafford, Klopp’s side returned back to winning way with an annihilation over Watford with a scoreline of 5-0 on their mid-week Premier League match at Anfield. Which helped them to keep maintain the 1 point advantage over second-place Manchester City, who also registered a struggling win over West Ham by 1-0 on the same day. For Liverpool, their star player Sadio Mane scored the brace inside 20 minutes which followed by the Divock Origi’s 66-minute goal and Virgil Van Dijk brace inside last 10 minute of the match. Van Dijk has been the Liverpool’s best man this season, he is not only doing his great at Liverpool’s back but also been providing an attacking threat to their opponents on set-pieces.
Everton also won their mid-week away game against Cardiff City and ended their 3 matches losing streak. For Everton, their star midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson scored in each half of the game and their frontman Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored third in the 93rd minute of the match. This win will surely be going to help Everton players to boost their morale ahead of the Merseyside Derby. In the last 2 home matches, Everton has lost on both occasion against Wolves and Manchester City. What we all know is, no Everton supporters want to see Liverpool winning the Premier League title. So tomorrow, The Marco Silva side will surely be going to give their 100 per cent on the pitch and try to stop Liverpool from snatching a point from their visit to Goodison Park.
Head to Head:
The Two Merseyside team have faced each other 53 times in the Premier League and Liverpool have won 23 out of them. They shared points on 21 occasions while 9 of them were won by Everton. Out of 9, Everton has registered 7 wins on their own turf at Goodison Park. Liverpool also has registered their 10 out of 23 wins at Goodison Park. Everton has been winless against Liverpool in last 18 matches in all competition and Marco Silva certainly wants to end Liverpool’s dominance in Merseyside Derby while Klopp’s boys will looking for the League double against Toffees.
Team Stats and Analysis:
Everton:
Despite bringing 5-6 new faces in the squad, Everton has been struggling to play the consistent football in the League. They currently sit at the 9th place with 36 points from 28 matches. This team have scored 39 goals so far in the league with an average of 1.39 goals per match. The Marco Silva side has made 347 attempts in the opponent post and only 113 shots were on target. Toffees were denied 11 times by the woodwork. They have conceded the same amounts of goals as they scored from 28 leagues games. They’ve kept 7 clean sheets so far in the league games. Gylfi Sigurdsson is their top scorer this season in the Premier League and has scored 11 goals so far in the League. The newly brought Richarlison has also scored 10 goals for Everton in the League.
They’ve collected only 1 point from 7 matches against the current top6 teams in the League, which will be a bit to worry for Everton supporters ahead of Merseyside Derby. If Everton wants to keep their hope alive for next season’s European Football, they certainly need to play better against these current top6 teams. The Merseyside Derby has become so much special for Everton supporters in recent years and with the quality in their squad, they can surely give the biggest upset to their city rival. As their manager Marco Silva said after a win against Cardiff, Everton have the squad which can beat any team in the league, they all just need to focus in the game and give their 100 per cent in the pitch. Everton has been playing an inconsistent football so far, which clearly shows by their current position in the Premier League table. Everton this season has performed below their par and to win against Liverpool, their main players Richarlson, Gylfi Sigurdsson, and Walcott need to step up. They need to press Liverpool in the counter-attacks but also needs to keep in mind of a possible reverse counter attack if they failed to capitalise their chances.
Team News and Predicted Line-up:
Everton has no major injury concern for this match, their CB Kurt Zouma is also set to make a return from the suspension in this match. He will be hoping to replace Phil Jagielka from the side that beat Cardiff just 3 days ago.
Liverpool:
With the power pack performance against Watford on Wednesday, Liverpool once again shut their hater's mouth. With that win, Liverpool keep maintained one point advantage over Manchester City. Liverpool is at the top of the table with 68 points from 28 games. 5 weeks ago they were 7 points ahead of the second place Manchester City, but after Liverpool played 3 draws in last 5 league matches, Manchester City narrowed the gap into just 1 point. Liverpool is the second highest scoring team behind Manchester City in this season Premier League. They found the opposition nets 64 times in 28 games with an average of 2.21 goals per match. They've made 418 attempts on opposition post, hitting 175 shots on target. Klopp's side has been denied 14 times this season by the woodwork in the League. Liverpool this season have the best defensive record than any other team in the Premier League, they have conceded only 15 goals with conceding rate 0.52 per match. They have registered 16 clean sheets from 28 games. Their Egyptian superstar, Mohammed Salah is Liverpool's top goal scorer in this season's Premier League with 17 goals and he will also be looking for his 50th goal under Liverpool shirt in this match. The mid-week hero Sadio Mane is following Mohammed Salah with 14 goals in the League.
Liverpool will bear in a lot more pressure for this match than Everton and If today City beat Bournemouth the pressure will be adding more on Liverpool. As they will travel German to play their reverse Champions League round of 16 fixture against Bayern Munich, they certainly don't want to lose their big players for that match. Liverpool now is in a big dilemma on whether to play focus on both competitions or just focus on the Premier League. If they want to win the Premier League, they should line-up their best possible squad for this match and needs to play their natural game without feeling any pressure. With Everton struggling to find their consistency and Liverpool's dominance in this fixture, Liverpool fans expecting to see their team dominating once again in this fixture. As Matip and Van Dijk, both set to make defensive pair at back, they can create a lot more problems to Everton defence on set-pieces.
Team News and Predicted Line-up:
As per information from Liverpool manager Jorgen Kloop, Firmino will be ready to make a return for this match. Loveren, Gomez and Chamberlin will be on absence list for this match. Shaquiri and Origi can replace Firmino and Salah after an hour mark as Kloop will looking to rotate his squad and give rest to his senior players ahead of big Champions League clash.
Betting Tips:
The odds for Everton to win this match on Betscorum is 6 and in the draw, the odd is 4.33 However the odds on Liverpool to win this one is very low and only 1.4. Looking at Liverpool's dominance over Everton in recent matches, It will be safe to place the bets on Liverpool. However, I personally feel this match will be ended a draw and will going to be a very low scoring one just like the last 3 meetings between these two sides.
My Picks:
1. Draw @4.33
2. Goals under 2.5
