Inter Miami, a team owned by David Beckham is targeting to sign Lionel Messi for its debut season in MLS in 2020. Inter Miami will begin its MLS season as MLS tries to increase its number of teams to 24 by 2020. Messi is now 31 years old and will be 34 when his contract to Barcelona ends in 2021 which he signed last year. His buy out clause is massive 700 million euros (835 million dollars).

For Inter Miami and Beckham, among many ambitious plans, the most ambitious plan to land Messi in its debut season. In his 34 years, he might want to end his career at MLS League. Messi himself has said he won't stay be joining any other European clubs and MLS can be an option. There are numbers of high profile player who moved to MLS and recent addition to MLS was Wayne Rooney. The other stars to move to MLS at the end of MLS career are Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thierry Henry, and Beckham himself.

“I’m increasingly sure that in Europe, Barcelona will be my only club. I always said I wanted to play in Argentine football one day, I don’t know if it will happen, but it is in my mind. It will be at Newell’s, nowhere else. I would like to do that for at least six months, but you never know what will happen.”

Messi joined Barcelona in 13 years old and had been loyal so far towards them. He has established himself as one of the best footballers ever. After the contract renewal last year, Messi said: "I am happy to continue with the club, which is my home. My dream was to finish my carrier at Barca, and we are moving down the path". Messi also showed said that he wants to play for Newell's Old Boys club in Argentina. It can be a discouraging sign for Beckham.

 But there are some good signs too. Back in 2017, Messi congratulated Beckham after Beckham announced his project. He said, “Hi David, first of all, congratulations, I hope all goes well with the new project, in this new step you are taking and who knows, in a few years maybe you will give me a call.”

There is still a long way to go for Inter Miami if they can sign Messi or not. Miami has a large Hispanic population. David Beckham, the franchise owner of Inter Miami, is a big profile in football. There is the possibility that he can bring some big players in Miami. They had already been linked to some European stars. Ronaldo was one of them but it turned out to be just a rumor. Antoine Griezmann also said he would be happy to play for Beckham.
