The boy has already played for Vasco, Boavista and Brasilia's PSG based football acad. (Brasília is the capital city of Brazil)

The boy is actually not much famous in Brazil, and that was well illustrated by the fact he could take a test in a major Serie A team without being noticed as the heir of R10.

There is some controversy in João being linked to Cruzeiro because the last club in which his father had good performances and was quite important to their most important title, was the rivals of Cruzeiro, the club Atlético Mineiro a.k.a. Atlético-MG.

João Mendes reportedly played very well as a striker in this test, which is his preferred position, in contrast with his father who was an Attacking Midfielder and occasionally Centre Forward but not a striker.
