Cardiff City vs Burnley

19th placed Cardiff City welcome 16th placed Burnley to the Cardiff City Stadium for the solo Sunday Premier League match. Both teams have gotten off to bad starts and the pressure is mounting on Cardiff manager, Neil Warnock to be fired already.

Stat Attack: There have been +1.5 goals in the first half in the last 3 Cardiff City matches: Over 1.5 FH goals is 3.50

Stat Attack: Burnley have drawn 5/7 away matches against promoted teams. Burnley to Win: 3.10

Warnock isn’t the bookies favourite to be handed his P45 just yet though, ahead of him are Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho at 3.10 and West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini at 5.37. Warnock is next at 5.46. These are Betfair prices.

Anyway, Warnock will no doubt see this match as a good opportunity to get Cardiff back to winning ways, something the Bluebirds haven’t done since they played Hull City in the Championship last April. The reason for Burnley’s poor start has been their unsuccessful Europa League qualification run which finally saw them put out of their misery following a 4-2 defeat, on aggregate, to Greek side Olympiakos Piraeus.

Cardiff City vs Burnley Betting Tips and Predictions: Cardiff

Neil Warnock

There is some hope for Cardiff here though even if it does look somewhat gloomy. In their losses they’ve faced the Premier League might of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City and there’s certainly no shame in losing to the likes of those Premier League behemoths. Their other two matches were goalless draws with Newcastle and Huddersfield Town.

Warnock’s team will be without one of their attacking options in Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and right-back Lee Peltier as well, but Bobby Reid will deputise for Laing while Bruno Ecuele-Manga, who has looked good in the side when he’s played at centre back, will move over to cover for Peltier.

Warnock didn’t exactly issue a rallying call at his press conference, instead he blamed the tough fixture list on why Cardiff have been so bad, but he did say “Our lads need something after the games we’ve just had against two top teams.” Cardiff can’t really afford another bad defeat here, they need to go for the win and as always with a Warnock side it won’t be pretty but it can be very effective when his team plays as a unit.

Cardiff City vs Burnley Betting Tips and Predictions: Burnley

Seam Dyche

Speaking of units, Burnley manager Sean Dyche hasn’t exactly been his chipper self of late. His team did far better than anyone predicted last season, however they’ve not done well so far this time around. Whereas most teams have only played around seven matches so far this season, Burnley have played 13, winning just three times. The ‘ginger Mourinho’ has not been a happy picture on the sidelines and the weaknesses in his Burnley side have been all too easy to see this season.

All that being said they looked like a new team in last week’s 4-0 demolition of Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth. And then they went and lost to Burton Albion midweek in the Carabao Cup. It’s probably going to be a good indication of how Burley’s season will go this time around, a solid home win then a bad result away from home.

Dyche’s team will be boosted by the return of Belgian midfielder Steven Defour for the match, he’s been badly missed by the Clarets and should give them some much-needed solidity in the middle of the pitch.

Cardiff City vs Burnley Betting Tips and Predictions: Stats

Of their last six Premier League matches, Cardiff City have won none, drawn two and lost four. Over 2.5 goals has landed in 3/6, while Both Teams to Score has occurred in 2/6 and they’ve kept just 2/6 Clean Sheets.

Of Burnley’s six Premier League matches this season they’ve won one, drawn one and lost four. Over 2.5 goals has landed in 3/6, Both Teams to Score has occurred in 2/6, while they’ve kept just 2/6 Clean Sheets.

The market isn’t expecting a goalfest here, Over 2.5 goals opened at 2.70 on Pinnacle and has dropped to 2.50 since. Burnley’s price has seen the most movement though, opening around 3.10 it has dropped as low as 2.85 with some bookies. It’s very tough to call a winner here and the safest option is probably trading on Both Teams to Score at 2.0 or the Draw at 3.05.
