The 2018 World Cup has arguably been one of the most entertaining in decades. VAR system has been introduced and led to an increased number of penalties, goals scored and more controversy. Favorites were eliminated one by one, while well-organized teams like Sweden or Russia kept marching on. But what questions are yet to be answered in the semifinals (and the consequent final)?

Can Roberto Martinez become the first ever foreign manager to win the World Cup?

It’s no secret that no foreign manager has ever lifted the trophy. The Spaniard is just two games away from creating precedent. So far Belgium won all 5 games and did not require a penalty shootout or even extra time. However, they survived a scare against Japan as they were trailing by two goals with 20 minutes to go. They are the top scoring team in the tournament and beat the main favorites, five-times champions Brazil. So it looks like Eden Hazard and co. have set their eyes on the trophy.

Who will be the top striker come the end of the tournament?

It looks very much likely that the golden boot will go either to Harry Kane or Romelu Lukaku. The England striker is now on 6 goals, although 3 of them were scored from the penalty spot. Manchester United forward has netted 4 goals so far, all from open play. France forwards Mbappe and Griezmann are on 3 goals each and could join the race if they manage to beat Thibaut Courtois in the semifinal.

Will it come home?

As obsessive as English fans are, they do believe the football will come home. Few people dared to imagine England could become world champions a month ago, but the idea doesn’t sound as crazy after The Three Lions made it to the semifinals.

Are we going to have a new World Champion or either France or England will get their second win in history?

Neither Belgium not Croatia ever won the title. They could become just eighth country to do so, matching England, France and Spain. However, if France or England win the trophy, they will catch Argentina and Uruguay, who have won 2 titles so far.

Will FIFA reward Cuneyt Cakir with a chance to work in the World Cup final?

You may respect him or hate him, but FIFA definitely rate him above most other referees these days. The controversial Turkish match referee has been known for his composed officiating but also for his ability to turn the games around with inexplicably controversial  decisions. Just remember Nani sending-off in the Champions League or Marko Arnautovic red card in the World Cup Qualification Campaign.

Only a couple of days left till we know the answers to these questions!
