First up credit to the Italian National men's football team as they totally outclassed Turkey today, beating them 3 goals to nill in the opening match of the Euro 2021.
It's a sunny day in the Italian elite football league– the Seria A. Something enviable is brewing there. What's goan–as Jamaicans will say? It has to be called an outlier kind of time.
I always tell anyone who cares to listen that it's quite simple to transform a club– get a great coach! Am I downplaying having the right kind of playing personnel, administrative nuance or finances? Definitely not, all I'm saying is the most essential piece is coaching. Capisce?
So if Manchester City or Chelsea or PSG have risen out of the also-rans status of some years back due to brute financial might(as is the general commentary), I would also show you excellent coaching that made it happen. Or if you point to the superior financial mights of long time heavy weights like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, I would also show you their huge investment in hiring super coaches. I could go on and on.
The word "outlier" in the first paragraph could mean, "something that is situated away from a main or related body." This coming season will surely witness this kind of phenomenon. It's mouthwatering,to say it mildly. Call it football explosion. Why? Coaches!
The quality of coaches on offer is going to make the 2021/2022 season one that is away from the norm that has been for several years in Italy and even in most leagues around the world. The football will be sizzling hot, the footballing equivalent of the best Italian pasta meal.
For the first time in a long while we have some of the very best coaches in the whole world converging in Italy coaching various teams, like a well worked out agreement amongst clubs. First up let's see the first seven teams in the league last season and their current coaches:
1¶ Inter Milan— Simeone Nzaghi
2¶ Atalanta— Gian Gasperini
3¶ AC Milan– Stefano Pioli
4¶ Juventus– Massimilliano Allegri
5¶ Napoli– Luciano Spalleti
6¶ Lazio– Maurizio Sarri
7¶ AS Roma– Jose Mourinho
Now step back and take a look at that list above, feel the quality, feel the competition. Only the Premier league can compete somewhat with this. Yet there are others: Gennaro Gattuso is holding the reins at Fiorentina, the prolific Claudio Ranieri is in charge of Sampdoria, Sinisa Mihajlovic in Bologna and Eusebio Di Franseco manning Hellas Verona.
Three things a top notch coach does for a club:
1¶ Is able to manage scarce resources, saving the club money.
2¶ Brings in a special winning mentality.
3¶ Attracts good players to the club and therefore to the league because of his pedigree.
The Italian league had begun to loose it's hallowed heights in Europe, no longer the force they used to be in the 90's and much of the first decade of the 21st century. Most people said it was pretty obvious why this happened– emphasizing that the league didn't have the kind of players they had in Seedorf, Ronaldo, Nedved, Del Piero, Nesta, Maldini, Christian Vieri, Edgar Davids and much more. They concluded that then, the Italian league attracted big players, but not so anymore, the English league has become the star attraction these days.
Yet little did they notice that the quality of coaching too had declined, the big coaches also left Italy. The revival began...
to be contd
