On Wednesday night 16th of January a mixture of journalists and former winners of the Golden Boot in Belgium will choose the best player of the year 2018 in Belgium. It is important to know, there are two voting rounds, one in June for the period of January until June and one in December, for the period August until December. Only players that play in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League can get a vote.
Former winners of the Belgian Golden Boot are Sergio Conçeiçao, Marc Degryse, Gilles De Bilde, Paul Van Himst, Johan Boskamp, Michel Preud'homme, Jan Koller, Dennis Praet, Ruud Vormer, Timmy Simons, Wesley Sonck, Axel Witsel, Vincent Kompany, etc...
The Racing Genk armada
3 names of the current leader in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League are serious contenders. Then especially for the second period of the year. In which they free wheeled through the competition and the Europa League.
Alejandro Pozuelo
The Spanish magician of Racing Genk, quick feet, and even a quicker mind, sees passes before anyone could have thought of them. Scores easily, and makes Racing Genk play with dept and vista. Is everywhere on the feeld, although he lacks a bit of speed, he still has an immense radius.
Roeslan Malinovski
The metronome of Racing Genk. Was already performing magnificent in the beginning of 2018 and really deployed his power, speed and destructional shots in the first round of the current season. Because of his overall performance in 2018, maybe the strongest contender of Racing Genk.
Leandro Trossard
The winger/striker of Racing Genk with the best right foot of the Jupiler Pro League. He can score out of nothing, and did so in as well The Jupiler Pro League as the Europa League. He has 9 goals in the current season, and a whopping 7 goals in 9 games in the Europa League. It's a shame he was injured in the beginning of the year, so he will probably come short because of the lack of votes in the first round.
The other contenders
Hans Vanaken - Club Brugge
Despite his height, this player can do magic with the ball at his feet. He was the leading figure in the title for Club Brugge for the 2017/2018 season. And he pulled through in the end of the year with a solid performance in the Champions League with 2 goals. And a whopping 7 goals and 12 assists in the first period of the 2018/2019 season of the Jupiler Pro League. The biggest contender for the win of the Golden Boot 2019.
Other possible contenders are, but less likely:
Wesley Moraes - Club Brugge
Mehdi Carcela - Standard Liege
Tomorrow night is the big night, I will sure inform you about who won and the other winners: Best Goalkeeper, Best Female player, Best Coach, Young player of the year and Best Belgian abroad!
Sincerely,
Pele23
