Football players have been hit with some weird and bizarre injury over the years, some bizarre ones occur a few minutes before kick-off while players warm up, some occur while players prepare to come on as a substitute, while some others occur on the field of play, a finger poke to the eye while coming on as a substitute will also be rank among the top freak and bizarre injury to football players.
A footballer going by the name Mattias Oezgun was accidentally poked in the eye while coming on as a substitute for his club Degerfors, a shock and painful poke to the eye will certainly make anyone moan/groan anytime and any day, Liverpool's Roberto Firmino will bare a witness, he was accidentally poked in the eye by Tottenham Hotspurs's defender, Jan Vertonghen in an EPL league fixture.

Oesters IF versus Degerfors was a match-day 3 tie in the Superettan(: super one) league, a 2nd-tier league in Sweden professional football, 2nd to the Allsvenskan(: all-Swedish) league. Oesters IF is a Vaxjo town-base club while Degerfors is located in Degerfors, though these towns are some 200 miles apart, the rivalry between them is fiercely closer.
It was a clash between the top half and bottom half of the log table, 4th from the top versus 4th from the bottom in a 16-clubs round-robin league. Degerfors had won her 1st 2 matches of the season and hoped to make it a 100% start to the season when they travelled to Oesters IF who are also unbeaten in their 1st 2 matches of the season too, though it was a back-to-back draw, yet an encouraging start to the season. The last 5 matches between these 2 clubs had nothing to separate them with a win each, 3 draws, same goals scored (7) and same goals conceded (7), it was a fairly even game judging by the stats.
It was a match of few chances, with just 16 combined shots from both teams. Oesters IF had 9 shots, 4 on target and 5 off target, while Degerfors had 7 shots, 2 on target and 5 off, it was a less entertaining affair. Both goals came in the 1st half, it was the away side that drew the 1st blood in the 12th minute through Rasmus Alm, but the home side quickly responded just 5 minutes later through Carl Johanson. The match turned out to be an anti-climax as both teams were happy not to commit their players forward for a possible win, it ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
However, it was the freak injury to Degerfors' substitute midfielder, Mattias Oezgun that took the headlines, Oezgun was coming on for teammate, Axel Lindahl and the pair met each other at the touchline with a high five, Lindahl swung his hand too far and carelessly poked Oezgun right eye, OUCH! Play had to be halt for a few minutes for the substitute, who had not even touch the ball, to receive treatment on the sideline. Fortunately, Oezgun shook off the freak mishap and saw off the remainder of the match.
It was just an accident Oezgun, remember,
accident doesn't come with a bell on its neck - Finland proverb
and it(accident) sure happens all the time, thankfully, it doesn't leave you with a black eye, so,
...bear it with dignity and grace... - Aristotle.
Thank you all for your time.
