According to a communication issued yesterday, October 18, 2018, UEFA informed that it decided to suspend the Russian club Rubin Kazan from all European football competitions for one season, due to the breach of the financial "fair play" in what was refers to player transfer and salary expenses.

According to UEFA, the Rubin Kazan (ranked fifth in the Russian championship, eight points behind St. Petersburg's Zenit leader) is unable to participate in an edition of the Champions League or the Europa League if it manages to qualify. Although it is expected that the Russian club can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The Rubin Kazan has been tied to UEFA's financial fair play rules since May 2014 and has since been fined a fine of three million euros (in prizes for club competitions) for violating that agreement.
