Literally, he's the only one carrying Manchester United for quite a time. Their defence has deteriorated with Luke Shaw only as an improvement so that's why De Gea makes more saves and less clean sheets. The same people saying he’s only made a lot of saves because of their awful defense are the same people who say he concedes a lot of goals (disregarding the point about their weak defense).
He’s definitely among the best goalkeeper in the world but that save rate shows how bad has been their defense. He has done much more then what is expected of him. This season I feel that the defense has been relying on him to do everything instead of helping. At most times There is no teamplay between them and him.
People who watch football will also know that they perform poorly at defending set pieces and crossing but they also have got a decent defense with young and Shaw having to play two roles at the same time. If young and Shaw get a proper single role and cover from martial and the right winger the crossing problem might go away. No one can take their defense one on one because smalling and Lindelof are still strong (except marking sometimes, that's just stupidity).
