New Year started pretty well for Tottenham fans, quite contrary to fans of our local rival. While they lost 1:2 at home to City conceding goal in added time, we beat Watford also in added time. It's fair to tell this year started with miracle because Davinson Sanchez goal with head is miracle if it's scored in right net. Well that happens in this game in added time. Son made good trick on wing, got fouled, made great cross from set pieces which hit Davinson's head and ball ended inside net for madness among away fans.
Spurs dominated from first to last minute, made dozens of crosses especially from right Emerson Royal side, but never actually fill the box with players as Kane was alone inside most of the time between three home players supported with goalkeeper. Back line was very good and stable, filling wing backs with useful balls, but final pass didn't come. While we are good with creating chances and scoring goals when other side is attacking us and give us some space, when we face team sitting deep with 10 players behind ball we're having difficulties creating chances.
Good thing is our players started to play serious football from beginning, grinding opponent who rarely get in possession of ball. Theory that every team must make one chance in one game is approved in this match as Watford had two-three dangerous counter attacks. Two of them were stopped by Panter-Man Hugo Lloris with running out of goal and getting to it before attacker, while another was world class save of kick which would end up inside the net of 90% of other goalkeepers. I don't know what Daniel is waiting and why he can't make agreement about his new contract. Guy is incredible and can for sure be on goal in next year or two. Third chance was stopped by Skipp who pulled back Watford player in front of box and earn yellow card for it.
On the other side Spurs had big chance in first half after mistake of Watford defense when Harry Kane shot went just little wide of goal. Kane had one more kick in second half which was good kick from 16m, ball went under bar, but goalkeeper tipped it in corner. Spider-man Son had two chances too, once he missed the ball with his heel and in another goalkeeper made Neuer-prime save of his shot.
Then came decisive minute when no Watford defender jumped on Son's cross, goalkeeper was behind and hero of the night Davinson Sanchez jumped and scored easy tap in goal from close range. He didn't celebrate it again for some reason. Some are saying he is not doing that because he is unhappy because of treatment he has among Tottenham fans. I don't know what does he expect ? I mean when you miserable fall on ground and let down your team mates, or score own goal of course no one will applaud you. When you do it often like him did it in last seasons you get noticed and targeted like problem. On the other side when you save net with heroic tackle like against Southampton or score winning goal like against Watford all will clap to you. Do it more often and you will get noticed like big player and get some song. :) He was man of the match in fans choice and I also voted for him.
Next game is important League Cup semi final first leg against city rival and current Champion of Europe Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. We don't win there to often in Roman Abramovich era, but they have some problems. They didn't win couple of games at home. Inflamed Everton took point there, Brighton looked dangerous there too, there is no reason for fear. Lukaku is on exit door after publicly announcing his unhappiness under Tuchel, some of their players are injured or got covid... On the other side we have manager who is not any worse than Tuchel and solid squad. They will for sure not sit back but attack us and give us some space and that's where we can be dangerous! I think we have chance against Chelsea. I think actually Stamford Bridge could be falling down on Wednesday with shocking 1:3 victory of Spurs! COYS!
