The early years

Mario Götze celebrated his professional debut at BVB on 21 November 2009. In training under Jürgen Klopp, the young Götze initially had a hard time with the physical game of the professionals. In order to be able to assert himself better with the professionals, Mario pushed special shifts in the fitness gym to build up muscles in order to be able to assert himself better in the physical game.

With success, as already mentioned above, Mario got his Bundesliga chance under Jürgen Klopp at the age of 17 years and 5 months. Due to his speed, his dribbling skills, his wit, his eye for his fellow players and last but not least due to his aired goalscoring, Mario quickly became an absolute shooting star and a sought-after player at the top clubs in Europe.

Jürgen Klopp further developed the boy in his game system at BVB and Mario developed into a regular player and guarantor of BVB success. The media was overflowing and Mario Götze was already celebrated as the successor to Leo Messi. With BVB and Jürgen Klopp, Mario won 2 German Championships in 2011 and 2012, a DFB Cup victory in 2012 and the Champions League Final in 2013. However, injuries prevented Mario Götze from participating in the final of the Champions League 2013, which was lost to FC Bayern Munich in London.

Mario Götze and BVB rejected several offers for a change of Götze and Mario extended his contract with BVB from March 2012 to 2016, but it turned out later that the new contract contained an exit clause with a fixed redemption fee of approximately 37 million euros.

Mario Götze also started in the national team under Jogi Löw and became a regular player there. He belonged to the squad at the European Championships 2012 and 2014 and when he was fit he also played under Jogi Löw. Every German knows that Mario scored the 1-0 winning goal in the final of the 2014 World Cup against Argentina in the Maracana Stadium and thus made himself immortal. But in 2014 you could already observe a drop in his performance which was widely attributed to his various injuries.

The change to FC Bayern Munich

In March 2013, Mario surprisingly included the opt-out clause in his contract and switched to the record champion and industry leader in Munich. The whole of Germany wondered why Mario Götze wanted to leave BVB and his foster father Jürgen Klopp, when things were more than bombastic for everyone involved. Many accused Mario of being greedy because it is known that FC Bayern Munich pays the highest salaries in the Bundesliga and indeed Mario's annual salary was astronomical for the Munich team at around 15 million per season.

But the main reason was not the salary, but the fact that Pep Guardiola was announced shortly before as the new coach and successor of Jupp Heynckes at FC Bayern Munich. Guardiola was and is regarded as the best coach in the world and Mario hoped that Guardiola could make him even better and more tactically flexible. That's exactly what the Bayern bosses' arguments might have been to convince Mario to switch to the FCB.

Piquant at this point is only the Pep Guardiola had another player of choice for his premiere season with the Bavarians, namely a certain Neymar. Guardiola is even supposed to have said "What do I want with Mario Götze, if I can't have Neymar I don't want one". I just want to leave this as it is.

The Bavarian bosses persuaded Guardiola that they had not had the best experience with Brazilians in the past. Instead, they would prefer idols and if there were one or two more players, they would be able to get the best out of them. Pep then also demanded Thiago Alcantara from FC Barcelona.

Mario Götze got all this through the media and thus had a hard time under the Catalans from the start. The performances remained more and more below expectations and Mario found himself more and more on the bench under Guardiola, which was certainly not helpful to his young psyche. His high salary and his transfer fee prevented a premature transfer to another club, which also removed Mario Götze more and more from their transfer lists. Mario Götze also repeatedly reaffirmed that he should fulfil his contract and assert himself at FC Bayern. But it seemed as if these were only personal perseverance slogans.

Returning to the BVB

After Carlo Ancelotti had suggested a change to him, Mario returned to BVB in 2016. There, however, he could not continue his performances under the coaches Thomas Tuchel, Peter Bosz, Peter Stöger and currently also under Lucien Favre, which he showed in the successful BVB time under coach Jürgen Klopp.

What's going on with Mario Götze? That the boy has an absolute exceptional talent is undisputed, I think. But now the question arises why he didn't bring this talent onto the pitch in the past and at the moment. There have always been injuries and forced time-outs, but these can't be the reason why Mario can't tap his potential.

Maybe there are psychological reasons for the enormous drop in performance that lie deeper. Who or what can help Mario to reach his full potential and inspire us football fans again. Who can give him back the lightness he had in the early years, when he was just a boy who wanted to kick.

It could also be tactical constraints of his various coaches to Klopp, which prevent a freethinker like him from bringing his full talent to the court. Another reason could also be that his fame and wealth have gone to his head, which not few accuse him of - but I don't want to make it that easy for myself.

The future and hope

From my point of view, he can't have forgotten how to kick. From my point of view, Mario needs a club and a coach who gives him time and confidence AND time to play. A club and a coach who stand in front of him, who take him out of the media spotlight and rebuild him. I would also advise Mario to change his advisor or even to do without an advisor and take things into his own hands.

The financial matters should not be in the foreground - the sportsman and player Mario Götze should be in the foreground!!!!!!!

FC Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp would be my first address here, if someone could bring Mario back to the top it would be Kloppo!!!

I wish for the boy that everything turns for the better again and he can simply kick again - like a boy who comes from the youth.

Maybe you agree with me and if not let me know yours.

See you
