We can now see many former footballers who actually enjoyed stellar football careers are now diving into the managerial side after their retirement
¶
We've seen the likes of Paul Scholes, a one time Manchester United legend being appointed as the coach of Oldham Athletic. We've also seen Frank Lampard, a former Chelsea all-time leading goal scorer being appointed as Derby Country coach before moving to Stamford Bridge where he's currently coaching
¶
Zinedine Zidane was also a player with a colorful football career but retired and followed the managerial side. Fortunately, Zidane is one of the few lucky players whose coaching career has been quite colorful. He has been doing well as a coach until recently that things are beginning to work against him.
Xavi Hernandez was also a player who retired at Barcelona in 2015 and he's now the manager of Qatar Stars League football club Al Sadd. I can go on and on to mention players who are now following the managerial side.
¶
Unfortunately, not all of these players who had colorful football careers are able to rise to prominence as coaches. Most of them only struggle as coaches and in most cases, they're shown the exit door.
¶
Being a good player doesn't guarantee that one would end up as a good coach except a few ones. We see how the mighty Maradona, despite his proud behavior tried all his efforts to be a successful coach but no way. We also saw how Seedorf flopped as a Cameroon coach before being shown the exit door after losing the Semi Finals to Nigeria at the 2019 AFCON
¶
Let's also not forget that Frank Lampard is currently not doing well at well at Chelsea while Ole Solskjaer on the other hand might be shown the exit door soon if things continue the same way
But what keeps baffling me is why most players are now towing the coaching line even though they are hardly successful. Why has it now become a trend for a player to retire and start considering towing the managerial side despite the fact that most of them only mess up as coaches?
