Last week I made analysis of Champions League group. And now it's time to use the same methodology to check Europa League draw results. For the beginning let's look at draw results

While analysing LC groups three parameters where user: clubs rating, assosiation rating and players' transfer value of each team. First two were used as a main indexes, transfer value was an additional one. In this post I decided to use onle two ratings. They are aggregated into one rating that is calculated as geometric mean of them.

The strongesr and weakest groups

To determine the "power" of each group we need just to calculate the sum of ratings of all teams in every group. The result is on the chart:

The strongest groups are J (Sevilla) and E (Arsenal, Sporting), the weakest are D and J.

Equal and diffentiated groups

To analyse equbility of teams in each group I used standard deviation of ratings and values. The lower result means more equal teams are in group.

The most differentiated group is J where Sevilla was drawed from pot 1. The most competitve groups are B, D, K, I and H.

Favorites and outsiders

To calculate advantage of team against its rivals we should to substract the average competitors rating from each club rating.

As we see the main favorites are Sevilla, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villareal and Leverkusen. These teams have to proceed to knockout stage.

As a conclusion I'll repeat one thing from previous post: "people play football but not numbers".
