Jarrod Lyle, the 36-year old Australian golfer who last competed in 2017 due to his battle with cancer has finally decided to end the treatment he had been undergoing which have become non-effective, in order to commence immediate palliative care.

The wife of the golfer, Briony Lyle, confirmed the latest development, following the acknowledgement by doctors handling Jarrod Lyle’s case. His doctors have agreed and confirmed that a positive outcome from the treatment was no longer achievable for the father of two lovely girls.

According Lyle’s wife who announced the development in a post on Facebook, Jarrod has "reached his realistic limit. He has given everything that he has got to give, and his poor body cannot take it any more."

In her heart wrenching post on Facebook, Briony Lyle posted that "My heart breaks as I type this message. Earlier today Jarrod made the decision to stop active treatment and begin palliative care."

"We'll be taking him closer to home in the next couple of days so he can finally leave the hospital."

"There is simply not enough time to get this message out to everyone individually, so for some of our really close friends and family I cannot apologise enough for breaking the news in this way."

"We have done our best to 'control' the narrative surrounding Jarrod's illness and treatment, and as more and more people become involved in this final process I'm not sure how much longer this development will remain private."

"Jarrod knows he is loved, and the thousands of prayers and well wishes that have been sent his way have kept him going through some incredibly tough times. But he has reached his limit, and the docs have finally agreed that they can no longer strive for a positive outcome."

"My focus as of today is on our girls and doing whatever I can to get them through the challenges ahead. Jarrod will be closer to them very soon, and will spend as much time as he can with them."

Jarrod Lyle had at a point in his golfing career reached a career high position of 142nd in the world.

The Australian golfer had won twice in 2008 on the Nationwide Tour, and spent 4 years playing on the PGA tour. But following the reoccurrence of the acute myeloid leukaemia, he last competed in 2017.

The 36-year old had previously overcome the cancer in 1998 and 2012, with various treatments. But he announced that it had returned last year, which led to his withdrawal from the sport that he really loved.

Sadly, despite giving all he had and embarking on various forms of treatments and therapies, doctors finally reached a consensus that there was no other medical means of achieving a positive outcome via treatments of the acute myeloid leukaemia.
