Top 5 Players of the 2009 World Series
By Zane Miller On Wednesday, November 4th, 2009, the New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies at Yankee Stadium in New York to win the 105th World Series four games to two. It was the 27th (and, as of this writing, most recent) World Series championship for the Yankees franchise, as well as the 32nd that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #13 Alex Rodriguez (Yankees)- 3B Rodriguez, currently a host for Sunday Night Baseball, scored partial player of the game in game three with two RBIs along with one run, one hit and one walk as the Yankees won it 8-5. 4. #20 Jorge Posada (Yankees)- C Posada got player of the game honors in game four, knocking in three RBIs with one hit and one walk, as the Yankees picked up the 7-4 victory. 3. #55 Hideki Matsui (Yankees)- DH Matsui earned player of the game honors in game six, knocking in six RBIs, tying for the most RBIs hit by one player in a single World Series game, along with one run and three hits as the Yankees picked up a 7-3 win to score the series championship. 2. #34 AJ Burnett (Yankees)- P Burnett scored player of the game in game two, as he went seven innings while allowing just one earned run on four hits and a pair of walks as the Yankees picked up a 3-1 win. 1. #26 Chase Utley (Phillies)- 2B Utley claimed player of the game honors in games one and five, as he had two RBIs, two runs, two hits and a walk in game one, which the Phillies took 6-1, as game five saw him get four RBIs with three runs, two hits, and a walk as the Phillies won it 8-6.
