UFC 241 : Cormier vs. Miocic 2
- Daniel Cormier [CHAMP] vs. Stipe Miocic -Cormier |KO/TKO| [Rd 3]
Statistics aren't definitely in the corner of Stipe in this match when it comes to championship rematches in UFC history. But statistics are just numbers. Stipe should stay in the outside and try to utilize his striking. In my opinion Stipe isn't a one punch knockout artist as the likes of Francis Ngannou. He should go for volume against Cormier, avoid the clinch situations, especially against the cage. I still think Stipe might have the striking advantage in this match (yes... he got KOed in close distance). DC is on a roll now, and it seems only Jones can rival him. But age is definitely a factor for DC. At heavyweight a single punch can change the course of the fight. Many people predict DC to finish Stipe in the first round and recreate his last win. But I think this match will be more competitive than that. Stipe is really good at adapting to situations, rematches (JDS rematch is a great example). Still I'm favoring DC to win this match (I am supporting Stipe though :D) Stipe will have his moments, but eventually DC will take the fight to the ground, and get the TKO win this time in the late 3rd round or within the championship rounds.
- Anthony Pettis vs. Nate Diaz -Diaz |Decision|
I was actually going to pick Pettis, winning a competitive decision. Nate is coming off of a long lay-off, but when it comes down to stamina, lay-offs won't matter for the Diaz brothers as they always have elite level cardio. And during the weigh-ins Nate looked way bigger compared to Anthony. Anthony wasn't looking that good during his last fight against Wonderboy, he was getting hit until he landed that spectacular KO (which he can always pull out of nowhere, which we always know about him). The pressure and volume should be the gameplan for Nate and if he utilizes that Pettis will be in huge trouble. Pettis tends to get tired lately after a couple of rounds..but the former lightweight king will hang on until the final bell, getting outboxed in side the pocket by Diaz. Pettis will definitely have his moments in the opening round, especially with some nice kicks (which should be Antony's gameplan if he wants to win) while Nate is trying to find his range.
