What is Next ?

  • Donald Cerrone - I completely underestimated Cerrone's new found interest to run for a title. Cerrone has always been a great fighter, there's no denying that but when it comes to the big stage, the big fights he always came up short for some reason. He has always competed at elite level and has succumbed to only the elite of the elite. I had him winning against Mike Perry ( Perry's fight IQ isn't the very best. No disrespect meant to Perry), but I thought a pressure-forward fighter like Hernandez would give Cowboy many problems. But Cowboy managed to demolish the young prospect and now he beat IAquinta up for the majority of the fight in a kind of a dominant fashion. IAquinta is no joke! He is one of the elite level fighter without any doubt. I have no idea what is the reason behind this resurgence of Cerrone, many saying it's got something to do with his new-born son .. I don't know .. may be some change in training ? Whatever the reason, it's working and as a fan of the sport it's great to see a legend in the game, someone who gave his best to the sport always gaining momentum even at this time of his career. Cerrone used more weapons during the fight with Al, including a lot of kicks, while Al only tried to box Cerrone. Surprisingly we didn't see IAquinta using that many body shots (which are the kind of famous as Cerrone's Achilles heel). I would love to see a Cerrone vs. Gaethje match. That would be a dream match for the fans, but I think Cerrone will only eye a title match, or a money fight with McGregor next. I think a McGregor fight would not be a bliss for Cowboy. Al definitely struggled with Cerrone's reach and length, but still managed to land some good shots on Cerrone. McGregor has the length and precision striking to put away Cerrone in my opinion, Conor is kind of a nuisance to the sport now, but dude's got amazing striking, that is for sure. AND Cowboy tends to get hit a lot recently too, though he wins.
