What's up basketball fans! I am here again @dwin0603 to give you another exciting basketball discussion for another episode of NBA Talk, and today we will talk about Paul George's emergence and how he can win more than the MVP award this season.
Paul George has emerged as one of the top players in the whole NBA this season and I put him over Giannis and Harden to win the MVP award. He's been the most efficient player today in my opinion as of today. But despite playing the best basketball of his career, he doesn't get enough recognition with his spectacular performance. People still look at Giannis and Harden as the favorites to win the MVP award.
During the off-season, we all thought that PG will join LeBron and the Lakers but he shocked the world by extending his stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder. George's decision was perfect. Look at him now. He's been the main guy in Oklahoma City and he's becoming the face of the franchise. Even Russell Westbrook, of all the people, give way to George and take a lesser role becoming only the number 2 option for the Thunder. We know Westbrook's personality, he is not the type of guy that will just take a step back in his role and give way to another player. But look how good the Thunder is right now. Look how good George is playing right now. If the Thunder finished as the top seed in the Western Conference, I think George will take home the MVP award.
George's quick Emergence
Last season, Paul George averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.0 steals, shooting 43 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three point line and 82 percent from the free throw line finishing the season in a early first round exit in the playoffs. He quickly improves that stats big time and he is now playing at an MVP level. Look at his stats now, he's averaging 28.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.3 steals shooting 45 percent from the field, 41 percent from deep and 83 from the FT line. If we look at that huge improvement, we can consider giving George the Most Improved Player of the Year. What do you think about that? The numbers don't lie. He's been more terrific on both ends of the floor all season long so why can't we consider that? I know he already won that award but man, he deserves to win it again.
PG13's defense
PG is one of the most talented two way star in the league for a long time. The impact of his defense is almost at the same level as his offense. People don't look at how good defensively George is because his terrific offensive skills overshadowed what he was doing defensively. He's got a huge chance to get the Defensive Player of the Year award in my opinion. Look at this, he's leading the league in steals per game with 2.3. I also think that he makes his team mates better defensively. He's in 4th place in defensive win shares and in 10th place in defensive rating. He's also one of the best defensive rebounders at 19th place. And the Oklahoma City Thunder is 2nd in the league with a defensive rating of 104.9. I believe George should win the DPOY award. He also deserves it.
PG13 is the MVp for me. The OKC Thunder is now sitting at the 3rd seed in the Western Conference behind the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets. Thunder's success is mainly because of PG's outstanding season and his impressive leadership on both ends of the floor which makes his team mates and the team even more stronger. It will be a tight battle for the MVP award but I think PG deserves to win it.
