Good to everyone in the community of Scorum, today I bring you what were the most important changes for the 2018-19 season of Formula-E, which have already run 2 races of 13 this season. The purpose of this post, is that everyone knows more about motoring and especially this category of formula cars but 100% electric.

For the 2018-19 season of Formula-E there were several important changes, among them we have:

  1. Chassis of the second generation.

The Formula-E had its beginnings in 2014 until June 2015, which represents the inaugural season of the category, until the 2017-2018 season that was used for the first generation of automobiles. The changes in the car were mostly chassis and some technical details. , That is to say, that as for the chassis the Spark-Renault SRT 01E used in previous seasons is replaced by the new Spark SRT05e.

In addition to the changes in the chassis, the Halo was also implemented, which is a safety system for the pilots, which was originally implanted in Formula 1 by the FIA (INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOBILITY FEDERATION).The "Halo" is a device made of titanium, an extremely resistant metal in the shape of a curved T, which is installed in the front of the cockpit. That bar has a resistance of up to 12 tons, equivalent to the weight of London's iconic double-decker buses.

Here is a video with the announcement of the Halo:

2. The Attack mode is introduced, which is a system that allows the pilot to have 25 kW more power, in parts of the circuit and number of times to be determined by the FIA before each race. This mode was included in the category in order to have more overtaking in the races and thus improve the show, however this new mode has had its criticisms by pilots and the environment of this automotive sport, even comparing it with the game by Mario Kart.

3. Changes in the classification:

For this season the qualifying groups will not be determined by a draw like the previous 4 seasons, but will be taken into account is the positions in the drivers' championship.Like the past seasons the 4 groups will be kept andRegarding the maximum power, the new Gen 2 will be able to use 250kW during the whole classification.

4. Changes during the race:

  • The races will not be to a certain number of laps, but will be for time, which will have a duration of 45 minutes plus one lap.

  • There will be no change of cars, the drivers must finish the races with the cars with which they started. Remember that in the past seasons there were mandatory changes of cars since the charge of the battery of the cars did not last to finish 100% of the race.

  • The use of power modes will be mandatory. The normal mode will have a power of 200kW while the attack mode will give 225kW. The latter will be available when the pilot passes through the activation areas that will be seen both on the circuit and on television.

  • The FanBoost will give you an extra energy whose maximum is 100 kJ. The minimum power will be 240 kW and the maximum will reach 250 kW, where the team will be responsible for managing the time in which this energy is used. The most voted pilots will be those who will use said fanBoost.

There are other changes in the regulations, however these are the most important changes that were applied from the first race of the season played on December 15, 2018 in the Al-Diriyah Street Circuit in Saudi Arabia and will continue throughout this season in the races of 2019.
