The third out of ten weeks of the Little @Mikey Poker Series is now over, and I'm still having a lot of fun with this series. I gave out another 25 SCR this week during the games (5 SCR each) and I also give a 25 SCR bonus to the player of the week.

In the update post on Wednesday, I mentioned that I have not been playing my best poker lately. I tried finishing the week strong, and I was able to do that with a second and first place finish on Thursday and Friday respectively. Let's take a quick break for a poker tip and then move on to the standings and the winner of the week, who I think you'll agree is an amazing poker player and person :-).
Poker Tip
The check-raise is a powerful move when it works. For those of you who aren't familiar, a check-raise is when you do not have position in a hand (meaning you are not on the dealer button and there are players who have to act after you) and you check, assuming that a player in better position will raise, and then you re-raise that player. It can be a very profitable move in cash games and a chip-building move in a tournament. But it often results in missed opportunities.
When you check in hopes of an opponent raising so you can re-raise them, you should be 75%+ sure that they will bet, otherwise, you're giving them a free card to look at to make their hand or letting them see if they've won the hand on the river. I very rarely fall for a check-raise on the river because when you have a marginal hand in good position, sometimes the best move you can make, especially against an aggressive player, is to check. Don't be afraid to check on the river if you think someone may re-raise you, and if you're trying to check-raise, maybe mix up your play and try betting into your opponent on the river to make sure you can get some chips out of your hand.
